KENNY NETS 24 IN 78-72 VICTORY OVER RUTGERS NEWARK

Mahwah, NJ: Junior Ander Kenny (Jersey City, NJ) led the Roadrunners with 24 points, to a 78-72 victory over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark tonight at the Bradley Center. With the six point win, Ramapo improves to 13-8 verall, 6-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Raiders fall to 12-10 overall, 5-5 in the conference.

The Roadrunners gained a 16-10 lead at 14:35, before a 4-0 mini-run, sparked by a steal and free throws from Greg Moore (Jersey City, NJ), put the Raiders within two, 16-14. After a basket from Kenny  to go up four, Moore answered with a three-point basket to cut Ramapo's lead to one point, 18-17 at 13:11. The lead changed over three more occasions for the remainder of the half with Rutgers Newark finishing on top by two points, 33-31. Rutgers Newark combined hitting 11-23 (48%) in the first half, led by eight points from both Deshawn Singleton (Passaic, NJ) and Moore. The Roadrunners hit 11 field goals on 26 attempts falling shy of the Raiders at 42%. Kenny and Tim Welsey (Jersey City, NJ) led Ramapo with ten points apiece. An even first half, both teams recorded ten turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play.

Wesley hit the first basket of the second half to tie the game for the fourth time, before back-to-back baskets from Singleton put the Scarlet Raiders up, 38-33. The Roadrunners gained back control and went on a 16-5 run over the next five minutes to again jump ahead by six points, 49-43, with 12:41 on the clock. The closest Rutgers Newark would come in the final minutes of the game was at 10:43 when a jumper from Ryan Gillens (Newark, NJ) put the Raiders within two, 51-49. The Roadrunners regained control and spread the gap to eight points in the final 36 seconds with a jump shot from Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ). Kenny put away 14 points in the final half shooting 5-7 from the field and 4-8 from the charity stripe while James Johnson () led the Raiders with 11 points. Ramapo hit 17-27 (63%) while Rutgers Newark hit 17-34 (50%) in the half.

Kenny finished the night with a team leading 24 points while Wesley added 22 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Findlay finished the night with 15 points and eight boards. Ramapo combined hitting 28-53 (52%) while the Raiders hit 28 of their 57 attempts (49%) led by Singleton with 15 points and Johnson with 13.

The Roadrunners face off with Montclair State on Saturday, February7th when they return to action for a 3:00pm tip-off while the Scarlet Raiders take on William Paterson on February 11th at home at 7:30pm.
