Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) broke the all-time career assist record at Ramapo College in a 3-2 victory over Endicott College today. The Roadrunners went 2-0 today on day two of the 2009 Endicott Invitational with wins over SUNYIT, 3-0 (30-221, 30-22, 30-26), and host, Endicott College, 3-2 (30-32, 30-25, 25-30, 30-21, 15-12).
Sierra needed 46 assists coming into today and after tallying five in the team's first match-up with SUNYIT, he dished out a team high 80 in their second win of the day over Endicott. The record was previously held by Pedro Hernandez, who recorded 3,201 during his collegiate career from 2000-2003. Sierra now stands with 3,240 with 13 to play in regular season.
Sophomore
Matt Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) led the Roadrunners against SUNYIT with 12 kills on 18 attempts hitting .500 in the win. The team combined hitting .309 with 46 kills with senior
Dave Ross (Perth Amboy, NJ) and rookie
Josh Castillo (Garfield, NJ) adding 11 each. Rookie
Edward Rossiter (Edison, NJ) led the defense with 11 digs and Sempkowski dished out a team high 29 assists.
In the Endicott match, Donohue recorded 37 kills while J. Elsasser added 18 and T. Elsasser chipped in 12. Kohler contributed nine total blocks in the win and Sierra added seven. The defense was led by Sempkowski with 21 digs and Donohue added 11 for the double-double. The Roadrunners hit .306 in the five game match-up with 85 kills on 183 attempts.
The Roadrunners head on the road again this week taking on Baruch on February 17th at 7:00 PM and Bard on February 19th at 8:00 PM in a NECVA Metro match-up.
