Pomona, NJ: Second-seeded Richard Stockton (26-11) dominated third-seeded Ramapo (24-10) 25-14, 25-8, 25-12 in an NJAC semifinal match. With the win, the Ospreys advanced to the Saturday's NJAC championship match at Montclair State, where Stockton will play for its second consecutive league title and third in four years. Christine Velott (Moorestown/ Moorestown) led the Ospreys to tonight's victory with 13 kills and five digs.
Jackie Aldrich (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) dished 22 assists and Kelleigh Best (Medford/Shawnee) contributed eight kills for Stockton.
Maura Burke (Wyckoff/Ramapo) paced Ramapo with seven kills and
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake/ Pascack Hills) tallied 13 assists for the Roadrunners.
Velott smacked five kills and Aldrich tallied eight assists in the opening set, which the Ospreys closed with an 11-3 run to win 25-14. In the second set, Velott capped a six-point run with a kill to put Stockton on top 8-2. Another kill by Velott later began a 7-0 run that gave the Ospreys a 20-5 advantage on the way to a 25-8 rout.
Tabitha Nejman (Runnemede/OLMA) and Becca Sims (Medford/Shawnee) each posted a kill and a block early in the third set as Stockton raced out to a 6-0 lead. Velott and Best finished with four kills apiece in the set as Stockton clinched its 22nd straight home win, 25-12.
Montclair State, which swept William Paterson in an NJAC semifinal tonight, will host Stockton in the NJAC championship match on Saturday at 5 p.m. The teams split two meetings during the regular season.
