Mahwah, NJ: In their fifth straight appearance in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, the #3 seeded Roadrunners of Ramapo College defeated the #6 seeded Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers Camden, 3-0 (25-16, 25-7, 25-9), in a women's volleyball match-up tonight at the Bradley Center. Rutgers Camden, after making their first ever appearance in the post-season tournament, wraps up the 2009 season at 11-14 overall, 3-5 in the conference.
Senior #Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) and sophomore
Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, NJ), led Ramapo (24-9 overall, 6-2 NJAC) to a three game shut out putting away eight and seven kills respectively. The Roadrunners hit a combined 31 kills with eight errors on 63 attempts hitting .365. The Scarlet Raptors hit -.127 recording 16 kills with 26 errors on 79 attempts. Katherine Crosby (Marlton, NJ) led Rutgers Camden with five kills.
Five kills from Anders and four from Smith led the Roadrunners to a 25-16 game one victory. The team hit a combined 13 kills on 31 attempts with five errors hitting .258 in the game.
Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) dished out 11 assists and
Elizabeth Steck (Marlton, NJ) led the defense with five digs. The Scarlet Raptors hit -.069 in the opening game with six kills on 29 attempts and eight errors. Rebecca Calabro (Williamstown, NJ) led the team with three kills and Catherine Tadeja (Cherry Hill, NJ) contributed five assists.
The Roadrunners committed only one hitting error in the second game hitting .533 as a team with nine kills on 15 attempts. Ramapo cruised by the Scarlet Raptors earning a game two victory, 25-7. Smith led the way with three kills and Steck added three digs.Calabro led Rutgers Camden's defense with three digs. The Scarlet Raptors went 4-22 with eight errors hitting -.182 in the game.
In the final game of the evening,
Meagan Taege (Manahawkin, NJ) and
Kimberly Runge (Closter, NJ) each recorded three kills while the team combined for nine. Ramapo hit .412 with nine kills defeating the Scarlet Raptors, 25-9 for the shut out. Crosby recorded three of the team's six kills in the game.
Fischer finished the night with 23 assists and Steck wrapped up the match with a team high nine digs. Tadeja dished out 13 assists for Rutgers Camden.
The Roadrunners advance to play the #2 seeded Ospreys of Richard Stockton College on Thursday evening in Pomona, NJ. The match-up begins at 7:00pm with the winner advancing to the finals of the 2009 NJAC Championship Tournament.
