Ewing, NJ: Senior goalkeeper Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) etched her name into The College of New Jersey record book becoming the women's soccer program's all-time leader in shutouts as the Lions blanked visiting Ramapo College 4-0 on Saturday.
Clarke had plenty of help from her defense as she needed to make only one save in garnering her 42nd career shutout. A starter for the Lions since she stepped on campus four seasons ago, Clarke moved past Victoria Nusse as the pair entered the day sharing the record with 41. Clarke now has 10 shutouts on the season.
The win also clinched TCNJ a bye in the opening round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament as they are 6-2 in conference play and 18 points. Overall, the Lions are 14-2.
The loss knocked the Roadrunners to an even 8-8-1, while slipping to 2-5-1 in the conference.
TCNJ got all of the offense they would need 10:30 into the game as senior Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) netted her fifth of the season on an assist from freshman Toni DeMaio (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills).
The Lions padded the lead to 3-0 by halftime as sophomore Annie McCarthy (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) and classmate Jaclyn Greco (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) each scored.
In the second half, DeMaio again was the catalyst as she set up junior Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) for her team-leading eighth goal of the season. That goal came just 1:58 into the second half.
In goal for Ramapo, senior
Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) had seven saves, while
Alyssa Krall (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) had one.
TCNJ caps the regular season on Wednesday, October 28 hosting Rutgers University – Newark at 7:30 p.m., while the Roadrunners return home to face Kean University that same day in a 3:30 p.m. start.
