SMITH LEADS RAMAPO OVER NJCU, 3-2

Mahwah, NJ: Sophomore Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) tallied a game high 17 kills to lead Ramapo to a 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-9) NJAC victory over New Jersey City University tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 17-4 overall, 4-1 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights fall to 5-14 overall, 2-4 in the conference.

In game one Ramapo was led by Smith who had four kills while sophomore Kimberly Runge (Closter, NJ) tallied six digs and three kills. The Roadrunners fell short in game to 23-25 before coming back and taking game three 25-20. In game three Smith, sophomore Allison DiAngelo (Clifton, NJ) and sophomore Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, NJ) each contributed four kills. Sophomore Maura Burke (Wyckoff, NJ) added three kills while Runge posted five digs. Ramapo would cap a 7-0 run with a kill by Anders to knot the score at 8-8. The score was tied again at 17 all as Burke tallied a kill and an attack error by NJCU game Ramapo an 18-17 lead they would not give up. Smith would post a kill making it 23-20 before a kill by sophomore setter Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) made it 24-20 and game point with Smith serving. An attack error by NJCU wrapped up game three, 25-20.

NJCU would come back strong in game four, 25-16. The Gothic Knights hit .367 (12-30) with six service aces to Ramapo's .241 (12-29) and only one service ace. Sophomore Tabitha Jordan (Bayonne, NJ) tallied five kills for NJCU while rookie Marissa Flynn (Bayonne, NJ) posted three service aces.

In game five Ramapo took an early 3-0 lead before NJCU got on the board with a kill from Jordan. Back to back kills by Smith and Burke would make it 5-1 before Flynn posted a kill of her own making 5-2 in favor of Ramapo. At 14-6, NJCU would go on a 3-0 run with the help of two Ramapo attack errors and a service ace by junior Alex Johanesen (Bridgewater, NJ) to set the score at 14-9. Smith would put the game away with her 17th kill of the match, 15-9.

The Roadrunners posted 63 kills in the game while Fischer tallied 52 assists. Ramapo also had 67 digs and nine service aces. NJCU tallied 45 kills in the match with 11 service aces and 64 digs. Rookie Amanda Dopico (West New York, NJ) recorded 23 digs in the match.

The Roadrunners hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness day today.  All money raised from tickets and concessions is being donated to Dig Pink.  Special thanks to all fans who wore Pink to show their support of finding a cure.  And special thanks to all who made special donations!
