OVERTIME IN ROWAN’S FAVOR

Mahwah, NJ: Junior Allen Pritchett (Camden, NJ) netted the game winning basket with just one second on the clock in overtime, to lead the Profs of Rowan University to a 72-70 victory over the Ramapo College men's basketball team. With the victory, Rowan improves to 8-9 overall, 2-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Ramapo falls to 9-8 overall, 2-4 in the conference.

After a 65-65 tie at the end of regulation, the two teams played five minutes of overtime basketball, where the Profs held the lead the entire period, with the ball game coming to a tie, three more times. Rowan outscored Ramapo 7-5 to earn the win. In the final second of play, Pritchett sunk his only field goal of the game to give the Profs the 72-70 victory.

Senior Dan Reddan (Brick, NJ) finished the night with a team high 20 points hitting 7-11 from the field and 4-6 from behind the three-point arc. Tyson Hartnett (Medford, NJ) contributed 16 of the team's 72 points while Billy Care (Linwood, NJ) added 13 of his own. Rowan wrapped up the night with 26 field goals on 61 attempts (43%), while Ramapo hit 28-64 (44%). The Profs committed only 19 turnovers while forcing 31 Ramapo turnovers. Sophomore Ahmad Hassan (Edgewater, NJ) led Ramapo with 19 points hitting 7-18 from the field, including five three-point goals. Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ) earned a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.

In the first half of play, the scored flip-flopped seven times and was tied four, while the Roadrunners held a slight 48% to 43% edge in shooting. Ramapo combined hitting 15 field goals on their 31 attempts, and held a slight 32-30 edge heading into the intermission. Rowan sunk 13-30 from the field and was led by Reddan who was the lone Prof in double-digit figures with 11 points. All Roadrunners were held to single digit points with Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ) and Findlay leading the way with six points each. Ramapo's biggest lead of the half came with 8:25 and 7:17 to play when LaQuan Peterkin (Paterson, NJ) hit a jump shot to go up 22-16, and Findlay hit a jumper to grab the six point lead again, 24-18 respectively. Rowan pushed ahead five points, just over three minutes into the game, with a two-point shot from Aaron Spellman (Pine Hill, NJ) to take a 9-4 lead.

After a jump shot from Hartnett to start the second half, which tied the game for the first time, 32-32, Ramapo grabbed a slight four-point lead with baskets from Wesley and Davian Plunkett (Paterson, NJ). The Roadrunners continued to stay on top despite the Profs knotting the score on three other occasions over the next six minutes. Rowan's first lead of the half came with 12:04 on the clock when Reddan hit a basket from the charity stripe. From there, the lead changed four times, and in the final minute, with the score tied, 63-63, two missed Ramapo free throws put the ball in Rowan's hands. Hartnett hit a jumper to go up two and with 23 seconds on the clock, Findlay laid the ball in, followed by a missed attempt by Hartnett to force overtime play. Ramapo hit 12-27 (44%) in the half ahead of Rowan's 11-26 (43%). Hassan stepped up and sunk 14 points for Ramapo, 5-9 from the field, including four three-point goals, while Reddan led the Profs with nine points.

The Roadrunners take on New Jersey City University at 7:30PM at the Bradley Center on Wednesday, January 21st, while the Profs travel to Pomona, NJ to take on the Ospreys at 8:00 PM.
