ROADRUNNERS GET FIRST NJAC WIN UNDER BELT

Mahwah, NJ: In a NJAC women's volleyball match at the Bradley Center, the Lady Roadrunners defeated the Pioneers of William Paterson, 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-12) earning their first New Jersey Athletic Conference win of the year. Ramapo improves to .500 at 5-5 overall, 1-0 in the NJAC, while the Pioneers were handed their first loss of the season falling to 6-1 overall, 0-1 in the conference.

The Roadrunners took game one, 25-18, behind three kills from rookie Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, NJ) and a total 11 from the team, hitting .474. The Roadrunners fell apart in game two combining for 12 kills but hitting .081 overall. Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, NJ) hit .800 with four kills on five attempts with no errors leading the Pioneers to the game two, 25-21 victory. In game three, Ramapo took control again hitting .161 over William Paterson's -.069 going up two games to one with the five-point win. Anders again led the team with three kills while Elizabeth Steck (Marlton, NJ) led the team's defense with seven digs. Kelly Helfrich (Clark, NJ) posted three kills of her own for the Pioneers, while her team combined for six more to take game four from Ramapo, 25-22, and force a fifth game face off. The Roadrunners bounced back hitting .571 over the Pioneers .095 to take game five, 15-12, and the match, 3-2. Runge led the Roadrunners in the fifth and final game with three kills. Helfrich led the Pioneers with four.

On the night, Anders recorded a team-high 14 kills and Kimberly Runge (Closter, NJ) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and a team high 15 digs. Steck contributed 14 digs defensively while rookie setters Michelle Del Valle (Teaneck, NJ) and Tiffany Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) combined for 43 assists. As a team the Roadrunners hit .215 with 52 kills on 121 attempts with 26 errors.

For the Pioneers, Helfrich recorded 16 kills on 47 attempts with seven errors hitting .191 and Maher dished out a team high 21 assists. Samantha Reed (Dumont, NJ) led the defense with nine digs. The team went 44-136 with 23 errors hitting .154 on the night.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, September 18th when they host St. Joe's at 7:30 PM at the Bradley Center while the Pioneers travel to Baruch o Thursday at 7:00 PM.
