ROADRUNNERS THIRD AT ENDICOTT TOURNAMENT

Beverly, MA:  The Ramapo College men's volleyball team finished 3-1 at the 2008 Endicott Tournament in Beverly, MA to improve to 23-5 overall.  They opened the tournament with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-16) victory over SUNIT before shutting out the host, Endicott College, 3-0 (30-24, 30-19, 30-26).  On day two, Ramapo fell short to NAIA, St. Ambrose, 0-3 (29-31, 30-26, 30-28) in their first match-up, before defeating MIT, 3-0 (30-24, 30-20, 30-24) to finish third overall in the tournament.

In the team's first victory of the weekend, senior Dave Ross (Perth Amboy, NJ) led the team with nine kills and Nick Kalback (Old Bridge, NJ) and Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ) recorded eight each.  Jairo Seirra (Fair Lawn, NJ) and Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) combined for 33 assists and Ross and Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) led the team's defense with eight digs each.

Senior opposite Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) recorded 13 kills hitting .474 in Ramapo's victory over Endicott.  Dan Sempkowski (East Brunswick, NJ) led the way with ten digs and Sierra dished out 38 assists.

In a tough loss to St. Ambrose, TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) and Whitford recorded a team leading 13 and 12 kills respectively while Sierra recorded 39 assists.  Sempkowski again led the team on the defensive end with 11 digs.

Whitford and Donohue led the Roadrunners in their final match-up of the tournament with 19 and 12 kills respectively and Elsasser added seven of his own.  Donohue and Elsasser each recorded two solo blocks and four assisted while Sierra dished out 48 assists and Sempkowski added 13 digs.  Backlund recorded 11 digs of his own and Donohue chipped in 12.


For his efforts, Brendan Whitford was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Roadrunners return to action on March 19th when they host NECVA Metro rival, New Jersey City University at 7:00 PM at the Bradley Center.
