#9 RAMAPO IMPROVES TO 19-2 WITH 3-0 SHUT OUT OVER YORK

Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners shut out the Cardinals of York College today at the Bradley Center in a non-conference men's volleyball match-up, 3-0 (30-5, 30-19, 30-14). With the win the Roadrunners improve to 19-2 overall. York falls to 2-8.

In game one, TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) hit a perfect 6-6 and Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) hit a perfect 4-4 to lead the Roadrunners to a 30-5 win to go up one game to none. Jairo Seirra (Fair Lawn, NJ) dished out eight assists and defensive specialist Dan Sempkowski (East Brunswick, NJ) led the team with five digs. The team combined hitting .667 with 13 kills on 18 attempts with one error. York's Stephen Vassell (Jamaica) and Jeff Walcott (Jamaica) each recorded one kill.


Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) led Ramapo to a game two, 30-19 victory with six kills and three digs. Rookie Yanick Coppedge (Montclair, NJ) and junior Greg Steward (Jersey City, NJ) each contributed four kills while sophomore setter Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) dished out a team high 12 assists. Scott recorded five digs and rookie Matt Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) added four of his own. Ramapo went 17-30 (.333) with seven errors and York hit .000 with five kills on 26 attempts and five errors.

The Roadrunners took the match with a game three, 30-14 victory behind Steward's four kills. Ramapo hit .650 in the game with 14 kills on 20 attempts and only one error. York went 10-30 with ten errors hitting .000 in the loss. Scott recorded ten assists and Coppedge added three kills.

Steward finished the night with eight kills and Backlund and Coppedge added seven each. Scott recorded a team high 22 assists and led the team with six digs. M. Whitford and Sempkowski each recorded five digs in the win. Ramapo hit .515 on the night with 44 kills on 68 attempts with nine errors. York went 17-75 with 24 errors hitting -.093 in the loss.

Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, February 27th when they travel to SUNY New Paltz for a 7:00 PM match-up.
