Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunner Men's Volleyball team recorded a 3-0 (30-13, 30-16, 30-20) victory over the Bridges of Brooklyn College tonight at the Bradley Center to improve to 17-2 overall on the year. Four rookies combined for 22 kills in the win. With the loss the Bridges fall to 1-8 overall.
Ramapo opened with a game one, 30-13 victory behind three kills each from senior opposite
Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) and junior outside hitter
Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ). Sophomore setter
Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) dished out ten assists and
Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ) and Donohue each recorded two digs in the win. The team hit .562 with 11 kills on 16 attempts with only two errors. Brooklyn hit -.048 recording seven kills on 21 attempts with eight hitting errors. Kwan Tong Ma (Brooklyn, NY) and Steve Siozos (Staten Island, NY) each put down three kills in the game.
Rookie
Nolan King (Cedar Run, NJ) led the Roadrunners with five kills in game two while fellow rookies
Jeff Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) and
Matt Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) recorded four each. Scott added another 12 assists and rookie defensive specialist
Kevin McNerney (Bayonne, NJ) led the team with four digs. Ramapo hit .538 over Brooklyn's -.043. Juan Caez (Oklahoma) posted three kills in the game.
The Roadrunners dropped to .097 hitting percentage in the third game but fought to take the game by ten, 30-20. M. Whitford led the way with five kills and Nick Kalback (East Brunswick, NJ) recorded three of his own. Scott contributed nine more assists and led the team with three digs. Ma led the Bridges with four kills in the loss while the team hit -.214.
Ramapo's M. Whitford led the team with nine kills and King recorded six of his own. Scott finished the night with 31 assists and McNerney wrapped up the night with a team leading six digs. Ma led Brooklyn with nine kills on the night.
Ramapo finished hitting .356 overall combining for 40 kills on 73 attempts while Brooklyn hit -.111 with 19 kills and 27 errors on 72 attempts.
Ramap returns to action on Thirsday night when they host Bard College at 8:00 PM.
