Pomona, NJ: Top-seeded Richard Stockton (29-8) won the NJAC championship with a 25-11, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of third-seeded Ramapo (17-16) today. Amanda Burkart (Cresskill/ Cresskill) led the Ospreys to their seventh consecutive win and second league title in three years with 11 kills and nine digs. Audrey O'Donnell (Bogota/Immaculate Heart) slammed nine kills and setter Christine Aletras (Ridgewood/Ridgewood) handed out 32 assists.
Kayla Anders (Harrington Park/Old Tappan) paced Ramapo with seven kills and
Kimberly Runge (Closter/Northern Valley-Demarest) tallied six kills and 11 digs.
Elizabeth Steck (Marlton/Cherokee) scooped 16 digs for the Roadrunners.
In the first set, Burkart led Stockton with four kills and seven digs. The Ospreys reeled off the final six points of the set to win 25-11. Ramapo jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set but Stockton battled back as Burkart slammed five more kills in a 25-16 win.
Stockton used a balanced attack in the third set with O'Donnell, Anna Streicher (Marlton/ Cherokee) and Christine Velott (Moorestown/Moorestown) spiking four kills apiece as the Ospreys completed the sweep 25-16. Stockton won its fifth NJAC volleyball championship overall (1996, '99, '00, '06, '08).
Stockton earned an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA brackets will be announced on Monday.
