Mahwah, NJ: The Lions of the College of New Jersey defeated the Ramapo College women's soccer team, 4-1 today at the Athletic Center in Mahwah, to improve to 10-5-1 overall, 5-2-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners fall to 6-9-2 overall, 2-5-1 in the conference.
Sophomore
Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) scored Ramapo's lone goal in the 81st minute, but it wasn't enough to get past the NJAC 3rd place Lions. TCNJ posted their first goal of the game at 13:12 after a scramble in front of the net gave Laura Delaney (River Vale, NJ) her 7th goal of the season, and her team a 1-0 edge. Delaney struck again in the 25th minute when she connected on a pass from rookie Nikki Migliori (Hamilton, NJ) to head into the intermission with a two goal lead over the Roadrunners.
At 52:16 the Lions took a 3-0 edge with a goal from Erin Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ), and a 4-0 edge came at 79:43 when Casey Caruso (East Brunswick, NJ) took the ball herself past the Ramapo netminder.
TCNJ's shut out was spoiled in the 81st minute of play when Demko connected on a pass from sophomore
Kristina Marinello (Washington Township, NJ) posting her tenth goal of the year, but it wasn't enough falling short, 4-1 in the NJAC match-up.
Junior
Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) played the full 90 minutes for Ramapo blocking 12 shots in the net. The Lions ripped 30 total shots in the game, 18 on goal. Ramapo got off six shots, two on net, and TCNJ's Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ) tallied one save in the game.
The Roadrunners play their final game of the 2008 season on Wednesday night when they travel to Kean University for a 7:00 PM start. The Lions face off with Rutgers Newark, away at 7:00 PM.
