ROADRUNNERS DEFEAT CSI, 7-1

Staten Island, NY: The Ramapo College Roadrunners women's soccer team defeated the Dolphins of CSI in a non-conference test, 7-1 today. The loss puts the Dolphins back to 3-7 thus far this season, while Ramapo improved to 5-6-1.

Ramapo seemed to control the pace of the game from the outset, as the visitors tallied 12 first half shots to the Dolphins' two. The scoring opened with an Erika Kunzig (Wayne, NJ) tally at the 6:49 mark, as she took a lead pass from Caitlin Hess (Pittsgrove, NJ) and converted via a corner kick and a scramble in front of the CSI net. At the 20:22 mark, Ramapo doubled their lead as Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) broke through the CSI defense and went in solo against CSI keeper Tina Bellocchio, scoring the goal.

Demko didn't stop there, as she completed a first half hat trick with two more goals at the 25:16 mark and then again with just :32 left in the half.

CSI countered with a goal in the early stages of the second frame. At the 51:48 mark, senior Fiosa Begai tallied her third goal of the year via a penalty shot, putting the Dolphins on the board, 4-1. Unfortunately, it would be as close as the Dolphins would get, as Ramapo added another three tallies by three different goal scorers. Melanie Pupo (Newton, NJ), Mallory Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ), and Kimberly Bruno (Middletown, NJ) did the honors, giving Ramapo the 7-1 final.

Alyssa Krall (Toms River, NJ) earned the win in goal for Ramapo, needing only to make three saves. CSI's Bellocchio countered with 10 saves in the loss. Ramapo collected a 25-5 advantage overall in shots (18-5 on goal).

Ramapo returns to action on Monday, October 13th when they travel to St. Joseph's College at 4:00 PM.  CSI will be back in action on Monday, October 13, when they travel to face the College of St. Elizabeth, at 4pm.
