Pomona, NJ) – Ramapo (7-6, 2-1 NJAC) opened up a 23-point lead in the second half and held to defeat Richard Stockton (8-4, 2-1 NJAC) 83-77 in an NJAC game. Omar Alston (Carteret/ Carteret) dominated the paint with game highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Tim Wesley (Jersey City/Lincoln) scored 15 markers while Jason Marshall (Hackensack/Hackensack) and Andre Kenny (Jersey City/Dickinson) added 10 points apiece for the Roadrunners.
Jerome Hubbard (Neptune/Neptune) paced Stockton with 20 points and Jon Greene (Wildwood/Wildwood) contributed 15 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Mario Lancioni (Runnemede/Triton) finished with 12 points for the Ospreys.
Ramapo shot a torrid 60.7 percent from the field, including 4-5 from three-point range, in the first half. Alston and Kenny scored four points apiece as the Roadrunners closed the half on a 13-2 run for a 39-31 lead at the break.
Ramapo continued its hot shooting early in the second half and opened up a 67-44 lead with 9:55 remaining. Fran Kelly (Wildwood/Wildwood Catholic) then scored five consecutive points to spark a 23-4 run that pulled Stockton within four, 71-67, with 3:11 on the clock.
Ramapo answered with six consecutive points to establish a 10-point cushion at the 2:19 mark but Stockton had one more rally attempt. Hubbard hit two three-pointers 35 seconds apart to cut Ramapo's lead to three at 78-75 with 32 seconds left. The Roadrunners scored their final five points at the free throw line to end the threat and prevail 83-77.
Stockton will host Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC game on Wednesday, January 16 at 8 pm. Ramapo will have a week off before playing a league game at Rutgers-Newark next Saturday, January 19 at 7:30 pm.
