ROADRUNNERS OUTLAST NEW JERSEY CITY IN NJAC ACTION
Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners improved to 1-1 today in New Jersey Athletic Conference action when they defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 8-2. Ramapo improves to 5-4 overall while NJCU falls to 3-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
Rookie Melissa Demko (East Brunswick, NJ) opened the scoring just over 18 minutes in when she ripped a shot past rookie goalkeeper Kelly Reilly (Pennsville, NJ) giving Ramapo a 1-0 edge. Senior captain Jessica Giordano (Oakland, NJ) connected on a pass from Kristina Marinello (Washington Twp., NJ) at 26:53 and Jenny Paglia (Ramsey, NJ) put in an unassisted goal of her own to push the Roadrunners up three goals to none on the Gothic Knights. Brittney Harraka (Clifton, NJ) wrapped up the first half at 43:04 giving Ramapo a 4-0 edge heading into intermission.
In the final 45 minutes of play, Lisa Pacillo (Bridgewater, NJ), Jackie Eckstein (Fair Lawn, NJ), and Melissa Ohstrom (Dumont, NJ) each recorded a goal to go up 7-0 on NJCU before Jennifer Albuja (Union City, NJ) hit back-to-back goals pushing NJCU within five at 81:18 and 84:27 respectively. Ohstrom struck once again at 87:06 finishing the night 8-2 over NJCU.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica DaRold (Sayreville, NJ) recorded three saves with two goals against in the full 90 minutes while Reilly let up all eight goals and blocked 13 shots in the loss.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, September 22, when they host NJAC rival Rutgers Newark at 1:00 PM while the Gothic Knights travel to Medgar Evers tomorrow for a 4:00 PM start in Brooklyn.
