WHITFORD HITS DOWN FINAL POINT EARNING RAMAPO A 3-0 VICTORY OVER VASSAR

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo posted a 3-0 (30-27, 30-21, 30-28) victory tonight over Vassar College to improve to 23-13 overall. Vassar falls to 8-14.

The Roadrunners took a close game one, 30-27, hitting .171 behind four kills each from Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ) and Todd Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ). Senior Jordan Roldan (Jersey City, NJ) and sophomore Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) each dished out seven assists in the win while Donohue and Roldan led the defense with three digs apiece. Scott Leserman (Manhattan Beach, CA) led Vassar's attack with seven kills and Tom Pawlowski (Havertown, PA) and Kyle Giunta (Penfield, NY) each posted four digs in the game.

Ramapo fell behind 11-7 to start game two but went on an 8-3 run to take a 15-14 lead with a kill by Donohue. The next few points went back and forth until 18-17 when Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) sparked a Ramapo attack to take the game, 30-21. Kohler finished with five kills and Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) and Elsasser each added four. Phil Tully (Huntington Station, NY) led the Brewers with four kills. Ramapo hit .433 in game two over Vassar's .000.

Kohler connected three blocks after Ramapo fell behind 13-10 to tie the game at 13 and the Roadrunners connected a 10-4 run down 20-15 to grab a 25-24 lead. Elsasser hit down a ball to go ahead 26-24 and Whitford gave the Roadrunners a 27-25 lead with a kill of his own just a few points later. Vassar fought back to tie the game at 27 and Ramapo put together two points to take a 29-27 edge. After a serving error by Ramapo, 29-28, Whitford hit down the final point earning a 30-28 Ramapo victory. Whitford led the team with four kills in the game.

Whitford wrapped up the night with 11 kills and five blocks while Elsasser posted ten in the win. Roldan dished out a team high 19 assists and Sierra added 18 in the win. Leserman led the Brewers with 11 kills and Tully recorded ten. Ramapo went 43-109 (.156) while Vassar hit 35-106 (-.009).

The Roadrunners will travel to the NECVA Championship Tournament this weekend (3/20-4/1) as the #10 seed to face #7 Medaille on Friday at 6:00 PM.
