Mahwah, NJ: The Roadrunners dropped their first match of the 2007 season today at the Bradley Center to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz, 0-3 (21-30, 26-30, 31-33) and followed with a 3-0 (30-17, 30-13, 30-17) to improve to 8-1 overall, 2-1 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association. New Paltz finishes the day at 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the conference while Polytechnic falls to 2-8 overall, 0-4 in the conference.
Match 1: The Roadrunners dropped game one to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz, 21-30 after recording nine hitting errors and only 11 kills on 28 attempts, .071. New Paltz put down 14 kills on 25 attempts with three errors hitting, .440 to go up one game to none on Ramapo. Joshua Spiro (Island Park, NY) and Christopher Holden (Stony Brook, NY) each recorded four kills for the Hawks while Matthew Weingarten (East Moriches, NY) dished out 12 assists. Junior opposite
Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) led the Roadrunners with five kills and senior setter
Jordan Roldan (Jersey City, NJ) led the way with nine assists and four digs.
Ramapo dropped game two to the Hawks after Jeff Lee (Clifton Park, NY) put down five kills leading New Paltz to a 30-26 victory. Weingarten dished out 11 assists and Lee led the defense with three digs. Sophomore
Shane Donohue (Freehold, NJ) led the way for Ramapo with four kills while the team recorded 15 kills on 38 attempts with 11 errors, .105. New Paltz went 13-30 with six errors, .233.
The Roadrunners fought back from behind in game three but fell short, 31-33, dropping their first match of the 2007 season. In game three, Lee led the Hawks with seven kills and Weingarten dished out 18 assists while the team posted 19 kills on 39 attempts with eight errors, .282. Ramapo hit 22-40 with eight errors going .350 in the loss. Whitford led the way with five kills and
Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) led the defense with five digs.
On the day, Whitford recorded 13 kills and Donohue ten while
Dan Sempkowski (East Brunswick, NJ) posted 11 of his own. Roldan wrapped up the match with 22 assists and Donohue led the way with eight digs. Donohue recorded seven total blocks including three solo. Ramapo hit .189 on the day with 48 kills on 106 attempts with 28 errors. The Hawks were led by Lee with 14 kills and Holden added nine of his own. Weingarten dished out 41 assists in the win. The team went 46-94 with 17 errors hitting .309.
Match 2: New Paltz faced off with Polytechnic in the second match of the day posting a 3-2 (30-32, 30-20, 30-23, 26-30, 15-4) victory to improve to 5-1 overall, 3-1 NECVA Metro. The Hawks hit .248 in the win behind Michael O'Brien's (Nesconcet, NY) 13 kills and three blocks. Jacob Moore (Cortlandt Manor, NY) posted 12 kills and Michael Fink (Rochester, NY) added ten of his own. Mark Blair (Point Pleasant, NJ) recorded ten kills in the win and rookie setter Stephen Pendleton (Oneida, NY) dished out a team high 32 assists. Moore and Pendleton recorded seven blocks each. Polytechnic's Robert Petri (St. Louis, MO) led the Fighting Blue Jays with 19 kills and Kevin Davis (Rosedale, NY) recorded 13 of his own. Ergys Myselimi (Albania) dished out a team high 34 assists and Jay Kwon (Bethpage, NY) led the defense with 12 digs. Polytechnic hit 43-119 with 35 errors, .067 on the day.
Match 3: The Roadrunners cruised through game one of their second match-up of the day earning a 30-17 victory behind Whitford who hit a perfect 6-6 with two aces and two digs.
Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) and Donohue each added five kills while Roldan contributed 15 assists to the win. The team went 19-26 with five errors hitting .538. Polytechnic's Petri recorded four kills for the Fighting Blue Jays.
Ramapo earned a game two, 30-13 victory with
TC Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) leading the way with seven kills on 13 attempts. Sierra dished out nine assists and led the defense with seven digs. Ramapo hit .360 as a team with 14 kills on 25 attempts with five errors while Polytechnic went 4-31 with 11 errors hitting -.226 in the loss. Petri and Davis recorded two kills each for the team.
The Roadrunners finished the day with a game three, 30-17 victory to close out the match, 3-0 over Poly. Ramapo was led by Donohue with six kills, finishing the match with 14 total. The team hit down 15 in game three on 20 attempts with three errors, .600.
Marko Benito (Jersey City, NJ) recorded three service aces in the game and
Chris Anderson (Chester, NY) led the defense with two digs. For the day, Ramapo went 48-71 with 13 errors, .493 while the Fighting Blue Jays recorded 20 kills on 71 attempts with 18 errors, .028. Elsasser recorded seven kills and Whitford followed with six. Roldan and rookie
Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) combined for 29 assists. Polytechnic's Petri finished on top with nine kills and Davis wrapped up the night with six.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday night when they travel to NJIT for a 7:00 PM non-conference match-up.
