ROADRUNNERS SUFFER NECVA LOSS TO STEVENS, 3-0

Ramapo Bounces Back to Defeat MSOE, 3-1

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team posted a 0-3 (27-30, 23-30, 21-30) loss to the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology in a North East Collegiate Volleyball Association match-up at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. After recording a match two 3-1 (30-24, 27-30, 30-23, 30-25) over MSOE, the Roadrunners stand at 15-6 overall, 6-2 in the NECVA conference

Match 1: Stevens 3 – Ramapo 0: Ramapo fell just three points shy of grabbing game one, 27-30. Steven's Will Foley (Clifton Park, NY) and Joe Trinsey (Wilmington, DE) led the Ducks with seven kills each on eight attempts and no errors hitting .875 and 12 attempts with two errors .417 respectively. The team hit .439 going 22-41 with four errors while Ramapo posted 15 kills on 34 attempts with five errors hitting .294 in the loss. Michael Schulte (San Bernardino, CA) dished out 20 assists and Brian Carlson (West Seneca, NY) led the defense with five digs. Sophomore setter Jairo Sierra (Jersey City, NJ) dished out 14 assists and junior opposite Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) led Ramapo's attack with six game one kills on seven attempts with no errors hitting .857.

Stevens took game two, 30-23 behind four kills a piece from Scott Stoner (Wantagh, NY), Tomas Bochicchio (Saint James, NY), and Jonathan Landis (Sellersville, PA). The team hit .538 ahead of Ramapo's .258. Whitford led Ramapo once again with nine kills and Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp., NJ) led the defense with three digs. Schulte recorded 14 assists and Sierra contributed 11 for Ramapo.

Stoner led the Ducks in game three with five kills and Bochicchio, Foley, and Trinsey added three a piece to lead the Ducks to a 30-21 victory. Schulte dished out 15 assists and Ramapo's Sierra contributed nine in the loss. Donohue led the Roadrunners with five kills and Whitford led the team's defense with two digs.

Four Ducks finished the day with double digit kills with Foley on top with 12. Bochicchio and Stoner wrapped up the win with 11 and Trinsey added ten of his own. Ramapo's Whitford recorded a team leading 17 kills while Donohue finished with ten of his own. Ramapo's defensive end was led by Dan Sempkowski (East Brunswick, NJ) with seven digs and Sierra posted 34 assists on the day. Schulte wrapped up the win with 49 assists. For the Day, Stevens hit .495 with 55 kills on 91 attempts with ten errors while Ramapo hit 39-88 with 19 errors, .227. With the win, Stevens improves to 17-5 overall and remains undefeated in the conference at 6-0.

Match 2: Stevens 3 – MSOE 0: The Ducks defeated MSOE, 3-0 (30-26, 31-29, 30-19) to improve to 18-5 overall behind Stoner who led the team with 15 kills and Bochicchio who recorded 12 of his own. Stevens hit 41-91, with 14 errors, .297 while MSOE went 40-112, with 26 errors .125. Schulte dished out 36 assists and Carlson and Bochicchio each led the defense with ten digs a piece. For the Raiders, Michael Mocchi (Wheeling, Il) led the team with 21 kills on 37 attempts while Christopher Brandt (Darien, Il) dished out a team high 35 assists.

Match 3: Ramapo 3 – MSOE 1: Ramapo took game one of the final match of the day, 30-24 behind five kills from Whitford who hit a perfect 5-5. Cabrera and Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) hit 3-5 (.600) and 3-4 (.750) respectively. Sierra dished out 12 assists and added two digs while J Steinhauer (West Windsor, NJ) added two of his own. MSOE's Kevin House (Palinfield, Il) led the Raiders with seven game one kills and Brandt dished out 11 assists. Ramapo went 14-28 (.286) with six errors while MSOE hit 12-26 (.192) with seven errors.

MSOE bounced back to take game two, 30-27 behind 17 kills as a team going 17-31, .452. Mocchi led the way with seven kills and Brandt dished out 13 assists. Ramapo went 16-29 with seven errors, .310, behind six Donohue and five Whitford kills. Donohue led the defense with three digs.

Behind 7.5 team blocks, the Roadrunners grabbed a game three victory, 30-23. Kohler hit a perfect 7-7 and Donohue went 4-6 leading the team. Sierra contributed 15 assists and Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) led the defense with two digs. Kohler posted six total blocks including one solo and Whitford added five of his own. Ramapo hit .429 with 16 kills on 28 attempts and only four errors while MSOE hit .222 with 17 kills on 36 attempts with nine errors. Brandt led MSOE with 16 assists and House led the attack with five kills.

Ramapo held onto game four posting a 30-25 victory to take the match, 3-1. Donohue led all Roadrunners with five kills and Kohler added four. The team posted 14 total kills and MSOE posted 13 in the loss. MSOE hit .025 in the loss behind Ramapo's .346.

For the match, Donohue led the way with 16 kills while Kohler and Whitford followed with 14 each. Sierra dished out 52 assists while leading the defense along with Donohue with seven digs each. Whitford finished with ten blocks for the double-double. Ramapo went 60-111 in the match with 22 errors hitting .342 and MSOE posted 59 kills on 133 attempts with 31 errors hitting .211 in the loss. MSOE's House and Mocchi finished on top of all Raiders with 17 kills each and Brandt finished the day with a team high 50 assists.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, February 27th when they travel to SUNY New Paltz for a NECVA conference match-up at 7:00 PM.
