Mahwah, NJ: The Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University came to Ramapo and cruised through a NJAC match-up dropping the Roadrunners, 79-64 to improve to 17-8 overall, 11-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. With the win, NJCU takes regular season 1st place in the North Division receiving a first round bye in the post-season tournament. Ramapo falls to 18-7 overall, 9-4 in the conference and finishes 2nd in the North Division. Ramapo hosts TCNJ on Monday, February 19th at 7:00 PM in the first round of the NJAC post-season tournament. TCNJ finished 3rd in the South Division.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead at the start of the game but with three good NJCU three-pointers spilt by a good free throw, the Gothic Knights were able to tie the game at nine and take a 12-11 lead at the 15:29 minute mark. The Gothic Knights continued to capitalize on Ramapo's missed opportunities and connected a series of mini runs controlling the game and spreading their lead to as many as 18 with 8:19 left to play. Antoine Pryor (Elizabeth, NJ) to close their deficit to five, 36-31. NJCU outscored Ramapo, 7-3 in the final 4:30 to take a 43-34 lead heading into the intermission. Sophomore Dana John (Hillside, NJ) netted 19 points hitting 7-11 from the floor including 4-7 from behind the arc while the next top Gothic Knight checked in with seven points in the first half. Ahmad Mosby (Jersey City, NJ) each contributed five to the half. The Gothic Knights hit 18-31 (58%) from the floor ahead of Ramapo's 12-30 (40%).
The second half went much the same as the first with the Gothic Knights leading the entire half until the buzzer. They took a 20 point lead, 71-51, when Alex Mirabel (Jersey City, NJ) laid the ball in with 8:47 left to play. The Roadrunners hit 11-29 (38%), 0-3 from three-point range, while NJCU went 12-25 (48%) in the final 20 minutes of play. John was held to only two points in the half while Marques Hill (Hillside, NJ) was the second half leader with 15 points.
John led NJCU with 21 points in the win and Hill followed with 15. John grabbed a team high seven boards and Mirabel dished out a team high three assists. Ramapo's Pryor led the way with 15 points sinking his 1,000th career point going 4-13 from the floor and 6-8 from the free throw line.
Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ) netted14 points and Mosby contributed 12 in the loss. NJCU finished the night shooting 54% going 30-56 and Ramapo sunk 23 of their 59 attempts (39%).
