Mahwah, NJ: Ramapo defeated Yeshiva University tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah in a NECVA conference men's volleyball match-up improving to 11-5 overall, 4-1 in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association. Yeshiva falls to 1-8 overall, and remains undefeated in the conference at 0-5.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a one game lead dropping the Maccabees, 30-14. Rookie
Andrew Brown (Montclair, NJ) hit .500 with six kills on ten attempts with one error while fellow rookie
Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ) and
Greg Steward (Jersey City, NJ) each contributed three kills leading Ramapo to the one game edge. Rookie
Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) dished out 15 assists in the game. The team hit .267 in the win hitting 16-30 with eight errors. Yeshiva's David Kahana and Sam Grauer (White Plains, NY) led the team with one kill each.
Ramapo cruised through game two, 30-16, taking a two game lead in the best of five match-up behind Cabrera, Brown, and
Chris Anderson (Chester, NY) who recorded four kills each. Scott contributed 12 assists and
Kurt Backlund (Old Bridge, NJ) led the defense with four digs. Grauer and Joseph Schwartz (Columbus, OH) led the Maccabees with two kills each and Michael Lev (Los Angeles, CA) dished out four assists in the loss. Ramapo hit .188 in the game above Yeshiva's -.120.
Game three went to Ramapo, 30-10 taking the match to improve to 11-5 overall. Cabrera led the team with four kills and Scott dished out 13 assists. Anderson and Backlund led the defense with three digs each and Yeshiva's Kahana led the way with three kills. Ramapo hit .542 in the game while Yeshiva went .056 hitting 4-18 with three errors.
On the night Brown led the way with 13 kills and Cabrera added 11 of his own. The team hit .314 with 45 kills on 86 attempts with 18 errors and Yeshiva went 12-62 with 16 errors, -.065. Scott dished out 40 assists and Backlund led the defense with ten digs.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, February 15th when they host New Jersey City University at 8:00 PM in a NECVA METRO match-up.
