RAMAPO FIGHTS FROM BEHIND TO DROP PIONEERS, 67-64

Mahwah, NJ: Ramapo fell behind by as many as 11 but fought from behind to grab a 67-64 victory over the Pioneers of William Paterson in a NJAC match-up at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. Ramapo improved to 18-5 overall, 9-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Pioneers fall to 14-10 overall, 5-7 in the conference.

Despite shooting 13-34 (38%) behind Ramapo's 14-27 (52%), the Pioneers came out on top, 39-34 heading into the intermission controlling much of the half. William Paterson out rebounded Ramapo, 21-17, and forced more Ramapo turnovers, 7, then they caused themselves, 4. William Paterson was led by four Jason Cameron (Cliffside Park, NJ) three-pointers and two free throws for 14 first half points. Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, NJ) and Tim Lucas (Old Bridge, NJ) each recorded seven points and Luis Martinez (Passaic, NJ) added five of his own. All Roadrunners were held to single digit points with junior center Omar Alston (Cartaret, NJ) leading with nine. Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ) netted eight hitting 4-6 and Antoine Pryor (Elizabeth, NJ) netted seven.

The Roadrunners spent the first 17:34 slowly chipping away at William Paterson's lead and Alston tied the game at 61 after hitting two free throws with 2:26 left on the clock. After a Pioneer timeout, a five second call gave the ball back to Ramapo and Pryor sunk a three-pointer taking a 64-61 lead with 2:01 left to play. Martinez hit the back end of a two shot foul and Alston sunk two more free throws to grab a four point edge with 29 seconds to go. Martinez laid one in for the Pioneers and Pryor went 1-2 at the line holding onto the three-point, 67-64 victory over William Paterson.

Pryor finished the day with 15 points hitting 4-9, 5-6 from the line. Alston led the team with 19 points and a team high ten boards while Ahmad Mosby (Jersey City, NJ) netted 13 points, 11 which came in the second half. Mosby grabbed four steals and Wesley recorded ten points in the win. Ramapo went 20-51 (39%) in the game while the Pioneers hit 21-67 (31%). Cameron was held to one three-point basket in the second half finishing the day with 17, leading all Pioneers. Martinez hit 4-18, and went 0-4 from the three-point arc, sinking 13 points in the loss. Spiegel finished with 12 and led the team with two steals.

Ramapo continues rivalry week at the Bradley Center on Wednesday night when they host Montclair State at 7:30 PM while the Pioneers will host Rutgers Newark at 8:00 PM.
