Mahwah, NJ: Ramapo remained undefeated tonight at the Bradley Center defeating the Beavers of City College of New York, 3-0 (30-13, 30-26, 30-23) in a non-conference match-up. Ramapo improves to 7-0 overall while the Beavers fall to 0-2.
The Roadrunners cruised through game one behind rookie
Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ),
Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp., NJ), and
Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) who recorded four kills each in the 30-13 victory. Senior setter
Jordan Roldan (Jersey City, NJ) dished out 15 assists and Donohue and
J Steinhauer (West Windsor, NJ) led the defense with two digs each. Ramapo hit .500 with 18 kills on 30 attempts with three errors. City's Jose Villanueva (Chile) led the Beavers with two kills and Carlos Matute (Brooklyn, NY) contributed four assists. CCNY recorded five kills in the loss with two errors on 14 attempts.
Game two ended in Ramapo's favor, 30-26 to take a two game match lead. Ramapo hit .167 with 13 kills on 30 attempts with eight errors while CCNY posted 10 kills on 27 attempts with seven errors, .111.
Dan Sempkowski (East Brunswick, NJ) and
Nick Kalbach (Old Bridge, NJ) led the way with four kills each and rookie
Matt Scott (Edison, NJ) recorded 12 assists. Sempkowski and
Igor Katsnelson (Fair Lawn, NJ) each recorded three digs while CCNY's Alex Morgan (Madison, CT) and Malcolm Jerome (Brooklyn, NY) led the Beavers with three kills each in game two.
Ramapo wrapped up the match with a game three, 30-23 victory. The Roadrunners were led by
Greg Steward (Jersey City, NJ) with four kills while Kalbach, Steinhauer, and
Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) each recorded three. Ramapo went 15-32 with six errors (.281) while CCNY hit eight out of 27 attempts with six errors, (.074).
On the night, Kalbach led the way with seven kills and Steward followed with six while Scott, Roldan, and Sierra combined for 38 assists. Steinhauer led the defense with six digs. CCNY's Villanueva posted five kills in the loss and Matute dished out 16 assists. The Roadrunners recorded 46 kills on 92 attempts with 17 errors going .315 while the Beavers recorded 23 kills on 68 attempts with 15 errors hitting .118 in the loss.
The Roadrunners will host SUNY New Paltz and Polytechnic when they return to action on Saturday, February 3rd at noon.
