ROADRUNNERS HOLD ON TO DEFEAT KEAN, 3-1

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's volleyball team played host to the Cougars of Kean University tonight in a NJAC match-up at the Bradley Center in Mahwah.  Ramapo posted a 3-1 (30-12, 26-30, 30-20, 30-16) victory to improve to 10-4 overall and 1-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Cougars fall to 5-9 overall, 1-4 in the conference.

The Roadrunners slid easily past the Cougars in game one, 30-12 behind Maureen Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ) who posted five kills on seven attempts hitting .714.  Senior setter Ashley Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) dished out seven assists and Christine Simmons (Upper Saddle River, NJ) led the defense with five digs.  Kean's Alicja Ciastoch (Teaneck, NJ) and Samantha Trujillo (Linden, NJ) each recorded two kills in the game.  Ramapo hit .550 over Kean's -.080.

The Cougars came out on top, 30-26 in game two with two kills each from Ciastoch and Melissa Spinner (Chatham, NJ).  Ivana Kapetanovic (East Brunswick, NJ) dished out a team high seven assists and along with Spinner combined for six digs.  The Cougars hit negative once again in the game, -.097 while Ramapo dropped from game one hitting .000 with nine kills and nine errors on 28 attempts.

Game three went in Ramapo's favor, 30-20.  Ramapo improved hitting .111 with nine kills on 27 attempts with six errors.  Hennecke posted four kills and Juliana DaCosta (Dumont, NJ) added two in the win.  Cornett dished out seven assists and Joli Specia (Ringwood, NJ) recorded four service aces.  Rookie Nicole Bolash (Clinton, NJ) posted a team leading four kills and Kapetanovic dished out seven assists.

Ramapo wrapped up the night taking game four, 30-16 behind another six kills from Hennecke.  DaCosta added one and Cornett recorded eight assists.  Ramapo hit .391 over Kean's .074.  Trujillo led the Cougars with three kills and Kapetanovic recorded six assists.

The Roadrunners finished the night hitting .235 behind 20 kills from Hennecke.  Cornett posted 30 assists on the night and Simmons wrapped up the match with 16 digs.  Kean's Ciastoch finished the night with eight kills while Trujillo posted seven and Kapetanovic recorded 24 assists in the loss.  Kean finished the night hitting .009.

The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, October 5th when they host the Ramapo Invitational beginning at 4:00 PM and continuing into Saturday.  The Cougars travel to the FDU-Florham Classic this weekend commencing Friday, October 5th and continuing into Saturday.  Friday's action starts at 4:00 PM.
