ROADRUNNERS DEFEAT HUNTER BEHIND DONOHUE AND WHITFORD’S COMBINED 28 KILLS

Mahwah, NJ: The Hawks of Hunter College visited the Bradley Center tonight on the campus of Ramapo College for a men's volleyball non-conference match-up. The Roadrunners posted a 3-0 (30-26, 30-27, 30-28) victory to remain undefeated and improve to 6-0 on the year. Hunter falls to 3-5 overall.

Ramapo held a tight edge in game one until the Hawks tied the game at 19 with a solo block from senior Arthur Lebedin (Brooklyn, NY). Hunter went up by one, 22-21 and Ramapo fought back to take a two point, 24-22 lead of his own. The lead changed two more times before Ramapo pushed to come out on top, 30-26. Rookie Elvis Cabrera (Clifton, NJ) led Ramapo with six kills and Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp., NJ) and Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) each recorded four in the win. Senior setter Jordan Roldan (Jersey City, NJ) dished out 17 assists for the Roadrunners and Hunter's Zacarias Ripoll (Bronx, NY) contributed nine for the Hawks. Lebedin led the Hawks with four kills in game one. Ramapo went 14-27 (.444) with two errors while Hunter hit 20-33 (.424) with six hitting errors.

Hunter jumped out to a game two lead and held a edge most of the way until Ramapo fought back to tie the game at 22 and took a 23-22 lead. The Roadrunners pushed to the end on a 7-5 run taking the game, 30-27. Donohue led Ramapo with six kills in the game while Whitford added five and Roldan dished out 17 assists. Ripoll led the Hawks once again with four kills and Lebedin added four of his own. As a team Ramapo went 20-37 (.270) with ten errors and the Hawks hit 12-27 (.296) with four errors.

Ramapo posted a 30-28 game three win for a 3-0 shutout victory. Donohue and Todd Elsasser (Barnegat, NJ) recorded five kills each leading Ramapo in game three while Whitford and Tom Kohler (East Brunswick, NJ) each added four. Roldan dished out 18 assists and Donohue led the defense with two digs. Ramapo went 22-30 (.667) with only two errors while Hunter posted 17 kills on 26 attempts (.462) with five errors in the game. Ripoll recorded 13 assists and Lucas Lyszak (Poland) led the way with five kills.

For the night, Donohue led the Roadrunners with 15 kills while Whitford recorded 13 and Elsasser 12. Kohler recorded ten kills on the night and Roldan wrapped up the night with 52 assists. Defensive specialist J Steinhauer (West Windsor, NJ) led the way with seven digs and Whitford put down four total blocks, two solo in the match. Ramapo hit .440 on the night with 62 kills on 100 attempts with 18 errors while Hunter went 43-80 (.400) with 11 errors. Ripoll led the team with nine kills and Lyszak recorded eight of his own. Ripoll dished out a team high 29 assists and Lyszak posted three total blocks in the loss.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow night at the Bradley Center when they host the Beavers of CCNY at 8:00 PM.
