Mahwah, NJ: Senior guard
Antoine Pryor (Elizabeth, NJ) sunk a team high 21 points in Ramapo's 81-62 non-conference victory over the Cardinals of York College at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners improve to 12-3 overall while York falls to 11-7 on the year.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 12-8 lead just over five minutes in after sophomore Aaron Wilson (Brooklyn, NY) slammed down a dunk to grab a two point edge after sinking two three-pointers, split by a Jonathan Christian (Bronx, NY) jumper to start the game. York went on a 9-4 run to grab a 21-12 lead with 11:28 left in the half. The Roadrunners slowly chipped away at the Cardinal's lead coming within two, 19-21, and took the lead, 22-21, when Pryor hit a jumper and sunk three free throws after being fouled with 7:40 left to play in the half. Jeffery Boone (Rosedale, NY) ended the Roadrunners 15-0 run at 5:57 hitting a jumper to close the gap to four points. The Roadrunners followed with an 11-0 run and controlled the finals minutes of the half to head into intermission 17 points on top of York, 44-27.
Pryor finished the half with 14 points hitting 3-7 from the field and a perfect 7-7 from the line while
Shawn Frost (Newark, NJ) hit 3-3 from the field and 3-4 from the line for nine first half points of his own. Wilson netted ten first half points with one assist and Boone recorded six of his own in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Roadrunners shot 52% (13-25) in the half while the Cardinals hit 44% (10-23) of their shots in the opening half.
The Roadrunners took complete control of the second half sinking 43% (12-28) of their shots grabbing their biggest lead of the game, 26, with 7:28 left to play. York went on an 11-0 run sparked by Echols who sunk both of his pair of free throws. The Cardinals came within 15 but Ramapo picked up their game sinking eight straight free throws and rounding out the night topping York by 19.
Pryor finished with 21 points and Frost and
Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ) followed with 13 and 12 respectively. Frost hit 5-5 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds with three steals in the win. Junior
Jason Marshall (Hackensack, NJ) and sophomore
Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ) grabbed three steals each. Wilson wrapped up the night with a team high 17 points and Boone posted 13 of his own. Boone grabbed three steals and Dennis Echols (Jamaica, NY) netted 12 points with three steals and three blocks in the loss. York hit 19-44 (43%) in the game while the Roadrunners finished hitting 25-53 (47%).
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 17th when they travel to NJAC rival Montclair State for a 3:00 PM tip-off.
