MAHWAH, NJ: On Thursday night the Yeshiva University Maccabees visited the Bradley Center to take on the Ramapo College Roadrunners in a NECVA Metro Conference showdown. On the year the Maccabees are 0-6 overall, 0-5 in conference, while Ramapo enters with an astounding 9-1 record, 3-1 in the NECVA.
The Roadrunners got off to a slow start, as they found themselves trailing 4-1 following four unforced errors. However, Ramapo gained focus, took the lead, 7-6, on a
Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) service ace, and never looked back. The Roadrunners would score the next four points as well, the last coming on another Whitford ace. The closest the Maccabees would come for the rest of the game would be three, 12-9, following a Jamie Gelman (Los Angeles, CA) kill. Ramapo ended the game on an 18-8 run, making the final score 30-17. Jeremy Zisholtz (Atlanta, GA) led Yeshiva with four assists. The Roadrunners were led by
Shane Donohue's (Freehold TWP, NJ) nine kills.
The second game started in much the same fashion as the first, Roadrunners trailing 3-1, following a kill by Roman Rozenberg (Orsha, Belarus). A Donohue kill gave Ramapo 6-5 lead, one they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. With the score 16-9 in favor of the Roadrunners,
J Steinhauer (West Windsor, NJ) toed the backline and reeled off 11 straight points giving Ramapo a 27-9 lead. Another Donohue kill sealed the victory for Ramapo, 30-11. Donohue and Whitford each had six kills for the Roadrunners, while
Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) added 13 assists.
The difficulties the Roadrunners faced early in the first two games were non-existent in game three. Ramapo opened the game on a 12-1 run, highlighted by three more Donohue kills. The Maccabees could not stop the bleeding, as the Roadrunners coasted to a 30-8 victory in the game, and a 3-0 shutout victory in the match. Overall, Donohue ended with 24 kills, Whitford 12 kills, and Sierra 25 assists. Zisholtz ended with nine assists for Yeshiva.
Ramapo improves to 10-1 on the year, 4-1 in the conference.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday, February 15, hosting conference rival Stevens Institute of Technology.
