Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team played host to NECVA Metro Conference rival Mt. St. Vincent tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah posting a 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-17) shutout victory to improve to 9-1 overall, 3-1 in the NECVA conference while Mt. St. Vincent falls to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in the conference.
The Roadrunners took game one of the conference match-up, 30-26 led by rookie
Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp, NJ) who posted six kills on 11 attempts hitting .273. As a team the Roadrunners hit .150 ahead of Mt. St. Vincent's .029. The Dolphins were led by Russell Butts (Long Beach, NY)) and Daniel Williams (Brick Twp, NJ)) who posted three kills each. Rookie
Jairo Sierra (Fair Lawn, NJ) dished out a team high 13 assists in the win.
In the second game of a best of five, Ramapo ran away with the game, 30-22 behind five
Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) kills. Two came from Sierra,
Nick Kalbach (Old Bridge, NJ), and
Alex Likhovidov (Ringwood, NJ) each while Sierra added ten more assists to his stats. Defensive specialist
Richard Alvarado (West New York, NJ) recorded three second game digs while Sierra and Whitford also added three each.
Ramapo recorded their 8th shutout of the year with a game three 30-17 victory. Whitford added six more in the third game while
J Steinhauer (West Windsor, NJ) posted four of his own. Butts and Williams led the Dolphins once again with two kills each and Matthew Reinhardt (Staten Island, NY) led the way with six assists.
For the match, Whitford finished with 13 kills and one dig short of the double-double (9) while Donohue wrapped up the night with nine kills and seven digs of his own. Donohue also recorded five total blocks (2 solo) and Sierra dished out a team high 23 assists. Sierra, Donohue, and Alvarado posted nine, seven, and seven kills respectively. For the Dolphins, Williams led the way with eight total kills and Butts followed with five. Reinhardt posted 15 assists in the loss and Arnold Ross (Wilton, ME), Williams, and Chris Dotoratos (Bronx, NY) each contributed four digs for the team. Ramapo hit .232 overall for the match and the Dolphins came in negative hitting -.045.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday when they host Yeshiva University at 8:00 PM at the Bradley Center on the campus of Ramapo College.
