RED HAWKS DOWN ROADRUNNERS, 74-68,

MAHWAH, NJ: On Wednesday night the Ramapo College Roadrunners hosted the Montclair State Red Hawks at the Bill Bradley Sports and Recreation Center. The Roadrunners came into the game winners of six straight, while Montclair State looked to snap a two game losing streak. Montclair State opened the scoring early, with a Maurice Torres (Summit, NJ) lay-up 85 seconds into the game. The Red Hawks held the slim advantage all the way to the 11 minute mark, when an Ahmad Mosby (Jersey City, NJ) free throw gave Ramapo their first lead of the game, 11-10. The lead, however, was short lived as MSU went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by Jamal Ford's (Secaucus, NJ) five consecutive points. It was then Ramapo's turn to make a run, as they reeled off ten straight of their own, to make the score 23-21, Roadrunners ahead. The Red Hawks then closed out the first half with an 11-4 run, to close the gap 32-27 heading into the intermission.

Gian Paul Gonzalez (North Haledon, NJ) led MSU with 13 points and five rebounds in the first half. The Roadrunners were led by Timothy Wesley's (Jersey City, NJ) ten points and five rebounds. Although Ramapo found themselves down by five at the break, the deficit could have been much greater considering they shot just 33% from the floor, and MSU only went 9-18 from the free throw line.

Early in the second half, the Roadrunners cut the MSU lead to just two, 34-32, as Antoine Pryor (Jersey City, NJ) stole the ball from Gonzalez, and then lofted up an alley-oop pass and Todd Lowber (Riverside, NJ) emphatically slammed the ball down. Unfazed, the Red Hawks went on a 10-0 run, before Wesley could momentarily stop the bleeding with two free throws. The Roadrunners continued to battle, cutting the lead down to just two, 57-55, thanks to a Lowber three pointer with 4:32 remaining in the game. That was the closest Ramapo would come, as the Red Hawks proved to be too much down the stretch. The Roadrunners were unable to solve the MSU zone defense, as the final score was Red Hawks 74, Roadrunners 68.

Rashawn Wilson (jersey City, NJ) led the Roadrunners with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Wesley finished with 16 points, six boards, and five steals. Gonzalez finished with a game high 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Ford ended with 13 points and six steals.

The Roadrunners fall to 15-5 overall, 8-5 in the NJAC while the Red Hawks improve to 10-10 overall, 6-7 in the conference.

Ramapo College will travel to The College of New Jersey Saturday, to take on the Lions at 8:00 PM while the Red Hawks host Rutgers Camden at 2:00 PM.
