RAMAPO TAKES ANNUAL TIP-OFF WITH 70-65 WIN OVER FARMINGDALE STATE

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team played host to Farmingdale State in the championship round of the 2006 Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. Ramapo posted a 70-65 victory to improve to 2-0 on the year. Farmingdale falls to 1-1.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 40-34 halftime lead behind John Wojcik (Sayreville, NJ) who shot 4-5 including three three-pointers sinking 11 points in the first 20 minutes. Junior transfer Omar Alston (Carteret, NJ) netted eight points hitting 6-8 from the line while Antoine Pryor (Elizabeth, NJ) sunk seven of his own. The Roadrunners hit 12-31 (39%) as a team while Farmingdale went 12-34 (35%). For the Rams, Peter Lipka (Shelton, CT) posted 13 points hitting 5-7 including three three-pointers and Daimien Santana (Brooklyn, NY) netted six of his own with a team high five rebounds. In the final half, Ramapo held the lead the entire half but Farmingdale came within one at the 7:52 mark when Brian Robinson (White Plains, NY) sunk two free throws to close the gap, 52-53. Farmingdale tied the game at 54 before the Roadrunners pulled away with Ahmad Mosby (Jersey City, NJ) sinking six points in the final minutes. Mosby, tournament MVP, finished the night with 11 points and 12 rebounds while dishing out a team high six assists. Pryor and Wojcik wrapped up the night with 11 each and Alston walked away with 16 points and 13 boards hitting 2-10 and 12-16 from the line. Lipka and Terry Menefee (Mission, KS) led the Rams with 14 points each and Santana posted nine in the loss with five steals. The Roadrunners finished hitting 21-59 (36%) while Farmingdale went 22-65 (34%).

In the consolation match-up featuring Yeshiva University and Berkeley College, Yeshiva came out on top earning a 71-45 victory to improve to 1-1 on the year. Berkeley falls to 0-2. Yeshiva led, 33-23 at the intermission after shooting 12-22 (55%) from the floor over Berkeley's 9-22 (41%). Shuki Merlis (Atlanta, GA) netted nine points and grabbed four boards while Ian Ribald (Dallas, TX) contributed eight points for the Maccabees. Berkeley's Phillipe Leger led the Bulldogs with seven first half points with two assists. In the final 20 minutes of play, Berkeley came within ten but was unable to capitalize falling short by 34. Merlis finished on top with a double-double grabbing 17 points and 12 boards while adding two steals in the win. Ribald wrapped up the day with 16 points of his won and Berkeley's Leger and Jahlil Shannon each contributed 14 points in the loss. Shannon grabbed a team high three steals. Yeshiva shot a final 58%, 26-45 while Berkeley went 17-47, (36%).
