Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team played host to NJAC rival William Paterson University tonight at the Bradley Center in the final regular season match-up of the year. Ramapo posted a 3-0 (30-18, 30-24, 30-19) victory. The Roadrunners improve to 18-11 overall, 5-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Pioneers fall to 9-19 overall, 0-8 in the conference.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 15-8 game one lead and held on to take the game 30-18. The team was led by NJAC rookie of the week
Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) with four kills on ten attempts while fellow rookie
Maureen Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ) recorded three kills of her own. Junior setter
Ashley Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) dished out 13 assists and Rochelle Kizhnerman (Paramus, NJ) led the defense with four digs. For the Pioneers, Tasha DelVacchio (Magnolia, NJ) and Tamara Miller (Maplewood, NJ) recorded three kills apiece leading the way. Dana Hansen (Fair Lawn, NJ) contributed six assists and Samantha Reed (Dumont, NJ) led the defense with six digs. As a team Ramapo hit .250 with 14 kills on 32 attempts with six errors and the Pioneers went 9-31 with six errors hitting .097.
Game two remained tight until Ramapo went up and took the game 30-24 to take a two game lead in a best out of five match-up. Hennecke led the way recording seven kills out of the team's 18 total. Ramapo went 18-41 with six errors hitting .293 and William Paterson recorded 11 kills on 32 attempts with five errors going .188 in the loss. The Pioneers' Michelle Banom (North Arlington, NJ) led the way with five kills while Miller posted four of her own.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the start of game three fighting strong until the final point taking the game, 30-19, and the match 3-0. In game three the Roadrunners were led by Smith with four kills and
Christine Simmons (Upper Saddle River, NJ) and Cornett with four digs each. The Pioneers were led by Banom with four kills and Reed on defense with three digs.
Hennecke finished the night on top with 12 kills and Smith followed close with 11. Cornett wrapped up the night with 39 assists and Simmons reached double digits with ten kills in the win. Banom was the kill leader for the Pioneers with 11 while Hansen contributed a team-high 16 assists and Reed posted a team high 12 digs.
Ramapo hit .283 on the night with 47 kills on 106 attempts while William Paterson went 29-94 hitting .117 in the loss.
The Roadrunners await news on the seeding for the 2006 NJAC Championship Tournament.
