Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 (23-30, 30-26, 30-20, 30-19) non-conference victory over the Rams of Farmingdale State tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners improve to 15-9 overall while the Rams fall to 15-5.
Ramapo opened to a 14-9 lead forcing a Rams time out which gave the Rams a push to head down a 6-1 run taking over, 18-15. After a Ramapo time out, the Rams continued to take charge leading the rest of the way for a 30-23 game one victory. The Rams were led by Cathryn McLean (Freeport, NY) who posted six kills on eight attempts while Falon Taddeo (Oceanside, NY) dished out 13 assists. For the Roadrunners rookie
Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) posted five kills on ten attempts with no errors while junior setter Ashely Cornett (Hawthrone, NJ) dished out 12 assists and lead the defense with six digs.
Ramapo fought back to take the next three games earning the 3-1 victory in Mahwah. In game two, Ramapo's
Maureen Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ) hit .770 with seven kills on 10 attempts while Cornett dished out 15 assists. Farmingdale's Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NJ) and Colleen Mackey (North Merrick, NY) each contributed four kills while Taddeo led the defense with six digs.
In game three, Smith recorded seven kills and Cornett 16 assists while the team hit .483 with 18 kills on 29 attempts with four errors. The Rams were led Amanda Sperling (Massapequa, NY) with four kills. In the final game in the best out of five match-up Smith led the Roadrunners with 5 kills while Hennecke and
Juliana DaCosta (Dumont, NJ) each recorded three of their own.
In the match Ramapo hit .326 recording 63 kills on 129 attempts over the Rams .203, 54 kills on 143 attempts. Smith finished the night with 20 kills while Hennecke recorded 16 and junior middle hitter
Joli Specia (Ringwood, NJ) added 10. Cornett finished the night with 56 assists and Rochelle Kizhnerman (Paramus, NJ) led the defense with 15 digs and
Christine Simmons (Upper Saddle River, NJ) added 13. Moscato led the Rams on the night with 14 kills and Sperling added 13. Taddeo dished out 43 assists and led the defense with 11 digs.
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, October 20th when they travel to the Skidmore Tournament.
