ROADRUNNERS HANG ON EARNING SECOND WIN IN NJAC OVER MONTCLAIR

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's volleyball team earned their second win in the New Jersey Athletic Conference tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah over the Red Hawks of Montclair State. Ramapo posted a 3-0 (30-27, 30-26, 31-29) victory improving to 12-9 overall, 2-3 in the NJAC while Montclair falls to 8-16 overall, 3-3 in the conference.

Montclair hit .343 over Ramapo's .290 in the first game despite dropping the game 30-27. Ramapo's rookie Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) led the team killing six balls on ten attempts. Fellow rookie Maureen Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ) and Joli Specia (Ringwood, NJ) contributed three kills each in game one. For the Red Hawks, Heather Aciz (Secaucus, NJ) recorded seven kills on 13 attempts and Anna Chesnakova (East Brunswick, NJ) posted six on ten. Junior setter Ashley Cornett (Hawthorne, NJ) dished out a team high 14 assists for Ramapo and Raisa Silva (Newark, NJ) recorded 15 for the Red Hawks.

In game two, Smith and Hennecke combined for nine kills leading Ramapo to the 30-26 victory. The team hit .182 over Montclair's .029 with Aciz and Samantha Karpinski (Hackensack, NJ) combined for six kills. Aciz led the defense with two digs and Ramapo's Rochelle Kizhnerman (Paramus, NJ) posted six digs of her own in the win.

The Roadrunners fell behind in game three but fought back near the end grabbing the game three 31-29 and match victory, 3-0. Hennecke posted six and Smith three while Juliana DaCosta (Dumont, NJ) recorded two solo blocks. Cornett dished out ten assists while her team hit .133 in the game. Montclair went 14-36 (.111) led by Chesnakova and Aciz with four and three respectively.

Smith led Ramapo hitting .259 with 14 kills on 27 attempts while Hennecke followed with 13 kills on 28 attempts with five errors hitting .286. Cornett finished the day with 36 assists and Kizhnerman with a team leading ten digs.

For the Red Hawks, Aciz wrapped up the night with 13 kills falling nine short of a career total 1,000 kills. Chesnakove posted 12 and Silva dished out 36 assists. Kara Burnham (Moorestown, NJ) recorded three solo blocks in the loss.

On the night Ramapo went 45-109 with 24 errors hitting .193 while the Red Hawks went 43-105 with 26 errors hitting .162.

The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, October 12th at 6:00 PM when they travel to Rutgers Camden while Montclair hosts Rowan at 7:00 PM.
