Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team opened their 2006 season today at the Bradley Center in Mahwah hosting a quad match featuring Polytechnic, Newbury, and Baruch College. Ramapo opened the year 3-0 overall, 1-0 NECVA Metro.
Match 1: The Roadrunners defeated Polytechnic University in the first match of the day in a NECVA Metro conference match-up, 3-0 (30-11, 30-22, 30-13). The Roadrunners were led by sophomore
Brendan Whitford (Lyndhurst, NJ) who posted 12 kills on 16 attempts with two errors hitting .625 in the win. Nicholas Kalbach (Old Bridge, NJ) added seven kills and
David Ross (Perth Amboy, NJ) and
J Steinhauer (West Windsor, NJ) recorded six of their own. Rookie
Shane Donohue (Freehold Twp., NJ) posted five kills of his own. Steinhauer led the defense with seven digs and Whitford recorded three solo blocks for the team. Steinhauer posted three service aces and
Jordan Roldan (Jersey City, NJ) dished out a team-high 28 assists. For the Fighting Blue Jays, Piotr Drys (Kamien Pomorski, Poland) led the way with 13 kills and Momchil Dimchev (Varna, Bulgaria) recorded four of his own. Zakk Emnett (St. Louis, MO) dished out 16 assists.
Match 1: The Baruch Bearcats came out on fire in match one verse Newbury College recording a 3-0 (36-34, 30-28, 30-21) victory to open the year at 1-0 while Newbury falls to 0-2. Baruch was led by junior Greg Waldvogel (West Hempstead, NY) who posted 15 kills with three aces and three digs. Luke Sikorskiy (Lviv, Ukraine) added 11 kills and two assists while King Cheng (Great Neck, NY) dished out a team-high 39 assists. For the Night Hawks, Ken McNeeley (Forest Hill, MD) recorded 18 kills with ten total blocks while Erik Kostanski (Hampden, MA) and Jay Neveu (Riverside, RI) posted nine kills apiece. Nicholas Horrocks (New Bedford, MA) led the defense with ten digs.
Match 2: The Roadrunners faced off with Newbury in match two of the day earning a 3-0 victory (30-24, 30-27, 30-25). Ramapo improved to 2-0 on the year while Newbury fell to 0-3. Ramapo was led by Ross who posted 17 kills on 31 attempts while Donohue added 15 and Whitford posted 12. Roldan dished out a team high 51 assists and led the defense with nine total digs. Ross added two service aces in the win. Kostanski of the Newbury Night Hawks posted ten kills while McNeeley added ten of his own leading the way. Matthew Hartman (Feeding Hills, MA) dished out 32 assists and Horrocks led the defense with 12 digs.
Match 2: Baruch played Polytechnic in their second match of the day recording a 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-10) victory to improve to 2-0. Polytechnic falls to 0-3 for the year. Waldrogel led the Bearcats once again with 16 kills and two blocks while Wil Miranda (Minais-Gerias, Brazil) contributed seven kills in the win. For Polytechnic, Drys led the way with six kills and Emnett posted three kills and 11 assists with three total blocks. Drys led the defense with 12 digs.
Match 3: Ramapo wrapped up the day facing the Bearcats of Baruch College recording their third win of the 2006 season, 3-1 (30-20, 23-30, 30-18, 30-18). Ross posted 20 kills in the win with four digs and one service ace. Donohue and Whitford came in with 15 kills each while Whitford added nine digs and nine total blocks. Donohue added eight blocks of his own. Defensive specialist
Richard Alvarado (West New York, NJ) posted seven digs and
Marko Benito (Jersey City, NJ) posted eight digs of his own. Roldan dished out a team-high 47 assists. For Baruch, Waldvogel led the way with 13 kills and 12 digs while Sikorsky added ten kills in the loss. Cheng led the Bearcats with 39 assists.
Match 3: Newbury took on Polytechnic in the final match of the day earning their first win of the year, 3-0 (30-13, 30-21, 30-22). Newbury improves to 1-3 while Polytechnic falls to 0-4 on the year. Newbury was led by McNeeley with 18 kills, three aces, and eight blocks while Hartmann dished out a team-high 31 assists. Junior Adam Cauley (High Ridge, MO) recorded six kills in the win. For Polytechnic, Emnett posted seven kills with 11 assists with nine digs while Drys posted eight kills and ten digs.
The Roadrunners return to action on January 29th when they travel to Medgar Evers for a noon start.
