RAMAPO VOLLEYBALL OUTSHINES KEAN, 3-1

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College women's volleyball team defeated the Cougars of Kean University, 3-1 (30-19, 26-30, 30-27, 30-20) tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah improving to 9-5 overall, 2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Kean falls to 7-6 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

The Roadrunners grabbed game one by 11 points before dropping the second game, 26-30, tying the match at one game each. Ramapo fought from behind in game two grabbing the three-point victory before sealing the match, 30-20 in game four.

Ramapo's offensive attack was led by senior SAMANTHA WEJNERT (Paramus, NJ ) with 19 kills on 32 attempts with four errors while senior LISA FISCHMAN (Bloomfield, NJ ) followed recording 14 kills on 31 attempts with four errors. WEJNERT and FISCHMAN led the team in blocks with three assists and two solos each while rookie ROCHELLE KIZHERMAN (Paramus, NJ ) recorded nine kills in the victory. JOLI SPECIA (Ringwood, NJ ) added eight kills of her own. Sophomore setter ASHLEY CORNETT (Hawthorne, NJ) dished-out a team high 42 assists while KIZHERMAN and sophomore defensive specialist CHRISTINE SIMMONS (Upper Saddle River, NJ) led the defense with 17 digs each. As a team Ramapo hit .211 recording 55 kills with 24 errors on 147 attempts.

For the Cougars, Elizabeth Bauer (Rahway, NJ) led the team in kills posting 16 while Jennifer Carvalho (Rahway, NJ) and Jessica Jorge (Hillside, NJ) recorded 11 and ten respectively. The Cougars defense was led by Bauer with 18 digs for the double-double and defensive specialist Kayla Hausler (Bergenfield, NJ) added 11 digs of her own. Rookie setter Jamie Lee (Randolph, NJ) dished-out a team high 38 assists. The Cougars hit behind the Roadrunners at .096 posting 47 kills with 32 errors on 157 attempts.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Thursday, September 29th when they travel to CCNY for a 7:00 PM match.
