RAMAPO TAKES MT. ST. VINCENT IN FOUR, JOHNSON and WALES DEFEATS MSV IN FIVE,

Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College men's volleyball team played host to the Dolphins of Mt. St. Vincent and the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales in a tri-match-up at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners dropped the Dolphins, 3-1 (30-28, 20-30, 30-26, 28-30) in the first match of the day and the Wildcats followed with a 3-2 (26-30, 30-23, 26-30, 30-23, 15-6) win over the Dolphins. The Roadrunners then posted a 3-1 (30-26, 30-23, 25-30, 30-24) victory over Johnson and Wales finishing up the day standing at 12-4 overall, 3-1 NECVA Metro. Mt. St. Vincent adds two losses falling to 5-4, and Johnson and Wales wraps up the tri standing at 5-5 overall.

Match 1: Ramapo 3 – Mt. St. Vincent 1

The Roadrunners were led by rookies BRENDAN WHITFORD (Lyndhurst, NJ) and DAVID ROSS (Perth Amboy, NJ) who combined for 31 kills on 61 attempts with 13 total errors. WHITFORD added seven digs and ROSS added six while senior defensive specialist RYAN HOWELL (Bridgewater, NJ) led the way with 14 digs. Senior middle JERRY ROMAN (West New York, NJ) and junior outside hitter ALEX LIKHOVIDOV (Ringwood, NJ) recorded 14 and 12 kills on 21 and 25 attempts respectively. Sophomore setter JORDAN ROLDAN (Jersey City, NJ) dished out a team-high 41 assists in the win. For the Dolphins, senior Philip Gallagher (Peru, ME) led the team with 32 kills while Kyle Harvey (New Lenox, IL) and Russell Butts (Long Beach, NY) posted 16 and ten kills respectively. Matthew Reinhardt (Staten Island, NY) dished out a team-high 54 assists in the loss. The Roadrunners hit .360 while the Dolphins posted a .346 hitting percentage in the loss.

Match 2: Johnson and Wales 3 – Mt. St. Vincent 2

Gallagher led Mt. St. Vincent with 25 kills and junior James Collins (East Hartford, CT) led the Wildcats with 13 kills and six total blocks. Ryan Caines (Kingshill, USVI) posted ten kills and Albert Trevino (San Antonio, TX) added ten of his own for Johnson and Wales. Trevino dished out a team-high 41 assists and John Kubilis (Worcester, MA) led the defense with 15 digs. Harvey posted 15 kills on 37 attempts in the loss for MSV while Butts added seven of his own. Gallagher recorded 13 digs and Reinhardt posted ten. For the match, Johnson and Wales hit .138 while Mt. St. Vincent hit .188 in the match.

Match 3: Ramapo 3 – Johnson and Wales 1

Ramapo's WHITFORD and ROSS posted 16 and 15 kills respectively leading the team to their 12th win of the season. Sophomore middle KEVIN BIETKA (Flemington, NJ) recorded 11 kills and LIKHOVIDOV and ROMAN added nine apiece. ROLDAN dished out 57 assists and grabbed eight digs, and HOWELL led the way with nine digs in the match. WHITFORD and ROMAN each added eight total blocks. For the Wildcats, Kubilis and Collins recorded 17 and 16 kills respectively while Brandon Blanchet (Methuen, MA) recorded 11 of his own. Trevino dished out 52 assists and Johanssen Siddayau (Clifton, NJ) led the defense with 11 digs. The Roadrunners hit .277 ahead of the Wildcats' .168.

Ramapo will host Vassar College on Tuesday, February 15th at 8:00 PM.
