Mahwah , NJ : The Ramapo College men's volleyball team played host to the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University tonight at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners posted a 3-1 (30-17, 26-30, 30-21, 30-26) victory earning their second win in the NECVA Metro conference. The Roadrunners now stand at 3-1 overall, 2-0 in the conference while New Jersey City opens their 2005 season at 0-1 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
Ramapo posted 60 kills on 138 attempts with 22 errors hitting .275 while NJCU recorded 50 kills on 133 attempts with 26 errors going .180 in the match-up. Ramapo's DAVE ROSS (Perth Amboy, NJ ) and ALEX LIKHOVIDOV (Ringwood, NJ ) led the way each with 15 kills on 31 and 33 attempts respectively. ROSS added nine digs, three aces, and three blocks while LIKHOVIDOV posted six digs and two blocks of his own. Senior defensive specialist RYAN HOWELL (Bridgewater, NJ ) led the defense posting 13 digs while rookie BRENDAN WHITFORD (Lyndhurst, NJ ) and junior HECTOR RODRIGUEZ (Jersey City, NJ ) tallied seven digs each. RODRIGUEZ dished-out a team high 49 assists, WHITFORD posted ten kills, and senior middle JERRY ROMAN (West New York, NJ ) added ten kills of his own in the victory.
For the Gothic Knights, Robert Griffiths (Edison, NJ ) and Pablo Vargas (Union City, NJ ) led the team posting 11 kills on 27 and 29 attempts respectively while Griffiths led the defense with 12 digs and sophomore Carlo Edra (Edison, NJ ) recorded ten. Sophomore setter Maurice Washington (Orlando, FL) dished-out a team-high 43 assists while rookie middle Nick Conklin (Fairless Hills, PA) and sophomore middle Damon LaSalle (Clifton, NJ) recorded eight and seven kills respectively in the loss.
The Roadrunners will travel to Lehman on Thursday, January 27th for a 7:00 PM start while NJCU will travel to Baruch College on Wednesday, January 26th for a 7:30 PM start.
