Women's Soccer Defeats Ramapo in Season Opener

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (1-0-0) women's soccer team tallied two second-half goals, giving them a 2-1 win over Ramapo College (0-1-0) in the opening round of the 2004 Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament. RIT will face the winner of the Wisconsin-Stevens Point versus Alma College in the championship game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

RIT came out flat in the first half. Ramapo outshot the Tigers 10-6 in the first half as RIT goalkeeper Carrie Yehle (Clifton Park, NY) made four saves in the first half. With just 30 seconds to play in the first half Ramapo got on the scoreboard when Noelia Romero took a pass from Brianna McCully and beat Yehle for a 1-0 lead.

RIT picked up the pace in the second half, generating several quality scoring chances. RIT finally broke through in the 57th minute when Kate Cassim (Waterloo, NY) redirected a pass from Gabrielle Peters (Marion, NY) past Ramapo goalie Christy Turner, tying the score at 1-1. A little over 10 minutes later Alaina Chorney broke in alone and gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with her firs goal of the season.

Yehle finished the game with eight saves for RIT as the Tigers outshot Ramapo 19-18.
