STEVENS CROWNED 2004 ECAC DIVISION III SOUTH MEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPION

Mahwah, NJ: The Ducks of the Stevens Institute of technology was crowned the 2004 ECAC Division III South Men's Volleyball Champions after first defeating the Hawks of Hunter College, 3-1, and then the Roadrunners of Ramapo College, 3-1. Stevens wraps up their 2004 season 32-4 overall while Ramapo finishes 20-14, Hunter ends 21-9, and Mt. St. Vincent wraps up the year at 21-8 overall.

Senior setter Gerard Aro (Jersey City, NJ) was named tournament Most Valuable Player after dishing out 55 assists and digging 11 balls in the 3-1 (30-27, 30-27, 26-30, 30-21) win over Ramapo. Sophomore Greg Higgins (Kenmore, NY) posted 17 kills and added one block and one ace while sophomore outside hitter Chris Bock (Orlando, FL) recorded 14 kills and 18 digs. Will Foley (Clifton Park, NY) posted 13 kills and two total blocks in the win. For the Roadrunners, senior outside hitter KRIS FRASER (Lakewood, NJ) recorded 21 kills and ten digs while senior libero TOM WHITE (Clifton, NJ) led the defense with 14 digs. Sophomore ALEX LIKHOVIDOV (Ringwood, NJ) added 18 kills and nine digs in the loss. Senior setter JOSH STOKES (San Luis Obispo, CA) dished out 55 assists.

In the semi-final match-ups, #1 seeded Stevens Tech defeated the #4 seeded Hawks of Hunter College, 3-1 (30-21, 32-30, 21-30, 30-20). Higgins led the Ducks with 17 kills and five total blocks while Brian Woodworth (San Jose, CA) posted 13 kills, one ace, and seven digs. Rookie Scott Stoner (Wantagh, NY) added nine kills and three blocks and Aro dished out a team-high 39 assists. For the Hawks, Ronaldo DaSilva (Bahia, Brazil) led the way recording 19 kills and 17 digs while Mike McFalls (Woodside, NY) added 18 digs of his own. Jozef Dubroja (Glendale, NY) contributed 48 assists in the loss.

The #2 seeded Dolphins of Mt. St. Vincent were shut out by the #3 seeded Roadrunners of Ramapo College, 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-28). Ramapo's senior outside hitter, KRIS FRASER (Lakewood, NJ) posted 12 kills and 13 digs while GERALD REINER (Ringwood, NJ) recorded six aces and three solo blocks. Senior setter JOSH STOKES (San Luis Obispo, CA) dished out 33 assists. For the Dolphins, Phil Gallagher (Peru, ME) posted 16 kills and seven digs while Wilson Tran (Brooklyn, NY) added nine kills and seven digs of his own. Senior Brian Cafferty (Neptune, NJ) dished out 33 assists.
