Mahwah , NJ : Rookie NATALIE ZACHARIAS (Howell, NJ ) led the Ramapo College women's basketball team past Stevens Institute defeating the Ducks, 57-50 at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners improve to 4-0 on the year while the Ducks suffer their first lost of the season falling to 3-1.
ZACHARIAS posted 20 points shooting 8-13 from the field, 4-5 from the free throw line while VANESSA VARGAS (Union City, NJ ) netted 12 points shooting 3-9. VARGAS shot 6-7 from the line while adding a team-high six steals in the victory. Rookie ALISON BELLER (Morris Plains, NJ) recorded ten points and led the team with eight rebounds while senior captain JANINE CAPPADONA (Atlantic Highlands, NJ ) posted eight points and five assists. The Roadrunners led by as many as seven in the first half while spreading the gap to ten in the last 20 minutes.
For the Ducks, rookie Dora Enright (Longmont, CO) and junior Jenna Gambino (Staten Island, NY) netted 12 points a piece and Jaime Mehnert (Waldwick, NJ), Jean Matusiak (Glendale, NY), and Lauren Bialko (Cedar Grove, NJ) all dropped in seven points for the team. Matusiak dished out a team-high three assists and Enright grabbed a team-high nine boards.
The Roadrunners shot 39%, (19-49) from the field behind the Ducks 40%, (20-50).
The Roadrunners will return to action on Wednesday, December 1st when they travel to conference rival Kean University.
