RAMAPO OPENS 2004 MEN’S VOLLEYBALL SEASON WITH QUAD-MATCH IN MAHWAH GOING 3-0 FOR THE DAY

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team opened their 2004 season today at the Athletic Center hosting the Fighting Blue Jays of Polytechnic, the Nighthawks of Newbury, and the Cougars of Medgar Evers College. Ramapo went 3-0 on the day.

Match 1/Court 1: Ramapo (1-0, 1-0) 3 – Polytechnic (0-2, 0-1) 0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-20)
In a NECVA (North East Collegiate Volleyball Association) Metro match-up, Ramapo was led by senior KRIS FRASER (Lakewood, NJ) with 15 kills and 12 digs while fellow senior TOM WHITE (Clifton, NJ) recorded eight kills on 18 attempts. WHITE added seven digs and junior RYAN HOWELL (Bridgewater, NJ) dug six of his own. Sophomore setter HECTOR RODRIGUEZ (West New York, NJ) and rookie setter JORDAN ROLDAN (Jersey City, NJ) combined for 33 assists. JERRY ROMAN (West New York, NJ) led Ramapo with five total blocks while WHITE added three. For the Fighting Blue Jays, Peter Drys (Brooklyn, NY) and Andrew Park (Staten Island, NY) recorded seven kills apiece and Michael Kelly (Brooklyn, NY) posted six on 16 attempts. Zach Emnett (St. Loius, MO) dished out a team-high 21 assists.

Match 1/Court 2: Newbury (1-1) 4 – Medgar Evers (0-1) 1 (30-0 forfeit, 28-30, 30-25, 30-17)
Newbury was led by Ken McNeeley (Forest Hill, MD) and Eric Mattos (Holyoke, MA) with 12 kills apiece. Mattos tallied 11 digs for a double-double and McNeeley added two aces and two blocks in the game. Dean LaSalle (Rumford, RI) dished out a team-high 37 assists.

Match 2/Court 1: Ramapo 3 (2-0) – Newbury 0 (1-2) (30-25, 30-25, 30-20)
In Ramapo's second match-up of the day, FRASER posted 16 kills while recording four blocks and four service aces. WHITE recorded ten kills and nine digs while adding one ace and one block for the team. ROMAN killed four balls and HOWELL and rookie KEVIN BIETKA (Flemington, NJ) chipped in three kills apiece. RODRIGUEZ and ROLDAN combined for 33 assists. Newbury was led by Mattos with eight kills and Anthony Bonaldi (Warwick, MA) tallied seven kills in the match. LaSalle led Newbury dishing out 22 assists and Alex Pires (Boston, MA) led the defense with seven digs.

Match 2/Court2: Medgar Evers (1-1) 3 – Polytechnic (0-3) 1 (30-26, 27-30, 30-25, 30-25)
Andre Edwin (Brooklyn, NY) led Medgar Evers with 30 kills and 31 digs. Rawle Grogan (Brooklyn, NY) recorded 17 kills of his own while David Sealy (Brooklyn, NY) dished out 53 assists. For Polytechnic, Drys tallied ten kills and four digs and Kelly added eight kills and six digs for the team. CJ Frantz Denizard (Haiti) posted four kills and 13 digs in the match-up.

Match 3/Court 1: Ramapo 3 (3-0) – Medgar Evers 0 (1-2)
In the final match of the day, Ramapo was led by FRASER with 12 kills, five digs, four aces, and five total blocks. Rookie EMMANUEL ZEON (Howell, NJ) posted six kills while BIETKA added six of his own. Senior JOSH STOKES (San Luis Obispo, CA) and ROLDAN combined for 12 assists. For Medgar Evers, Edwin led the team with 11 kills while Sealy dished out a team-high 21 assists.

Match 3/Court 2: Newbury (2-2) 3 – Polytechnic (0-4) 0 (30-25, 33-31, 30-25)
Newbury was led by Bonaldi in the victory with seven kills and three total blocks while McNeeley added 15 kills and three blocks of his own. LaSalle added 37 assists for the team while posted five kills. Polytechnic's Drys led the way with nine kills and Kelly added six for the team. Denizard led the defense with 19 digs.

Ramapo will travel to Yeshiva University on Tuesday, January 27th at 8:00 PM.
