RAMAPO SLIDES BY ALVERNIA, 91-85 in OVERTIME

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team fell behind by as many as 18 in the first half of their 91-85 come-from-behind overtime win over the Crusaders of Alvernia College. The Roadrunners improve to 8-3 overall while the Crusaders fall to 7-3.

Alvernia opened the game with a 5-0 run before Ramapo sunk their first basket of the game at the 18:02 mark. The Crusaders then went on a 10-0 run taking a 15-2 lead over the Roadrunners. Ramapo trailed by as many as 18 in the first half and ended the first 20 minutes down by 11, 33-44. Alvernia remained in control in the second half until rookie ANTOINE PRYOR (Elizabeth, NJ) hit a three-pointer with 2:45 left in regulation to come within two points. Ray Strickland (Chester, PA) netted to free throws to lead 76-72 and PRYOR posted three more at 1:58 to bring Ramapo within one. Lamar Brickus (Coatesville, PA) turned the ball over with an offensive foul, fouling out of the match-up and JARED MILLIGAN (Ringwood, NJ) banged a two at 1:30 to give Ramapo their first lead of the game, 77-76. Senior guard CHARLES RANSOM (Jersey City, NJ) fouled Alvernia's Zach Straining (Harrisburg, PA) who posted an and-one play with one minute left in the game to take a 79-77 lead. MILLIGAN hit two more followed by an Alvernia turnover and AMIN WRIGHT (Jersey City, NJ) posted the go-ahead basket with just 20 seconds remaining. Alvernia tied the game with ten seconds on the clock with two good free throws by Strickland, 81-81. Ramapo outscored Alvernia, 10-4 in overtime earning the come-from-behind victory, 91-85 in Mahwah.

PRYOR finished the game with nine points and three rebounds while dishing out three assists. MILLIGAN netted 17 points in the match-up and RANSOM led the way with 20. RANSOM added three boards and five steals. WRIGHT recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds while senior center GREG MCBAIN (Wyckoff, NJ) added 12 points for the team.

For the Crusaders, Cornel Merricks (Philadelphia, PA) led the team shooting 10-18 from the floor for 28 points. Strickland followed with 16 and Akeem Washington (Lancaster, PA) added 15 of his own. Straining posted a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Ramapo will travel to York College of Monday, January 12 at 7:30 PM.
