RAMAPO CROWNED ECAC DIVISION III SOUTH CHAMPS DEFEATING HUNTER, 3-0

Mahwah, NJ: After Ramapo downed the Dolphins of Mt. St. Vincent, 3-1 (28-30, 30-22, 30-22, 30-25) they defeated the Hunter Hawks in three (30-18, 30-20, 31-29) to be crowned the 2003 ECAC Division III South Champions.

In the semi-finals, the #2 seeded Hawks of Hunter College defeated the #3 seeded Beavers of CCNY 3-1 (30-23, 24-30, 30-19, 30-21) to move into the finals. Hunter's Alfred Daos (Long Beach, NY) and Neil Hong (Honolulu, HI) tallied 19 kills a piece leading the team. Ray Bello (Bronx, NY) dished out 51 assists while adding 12 digs. Roman Lytvyn (Kiev, Ukraine) downed 12 balls.

Ramapo was led by junior KRIS FRASER (Lakewood, NJ) in the semi-final match with 25 kills on 58 attempts. FRASER posted 15 digs while adding three service aces. JERRY ROMAN (West New York, NJ) and rookie BRYNA BODAJ (Avenel, NJ) added eight kills a piece. Senior setter PEDRO HERNANDEZ (West New York, NY) dished out a team high 25 assists while rookie JOSH STOKES (San Luis Obispo, CA) dished out 21 of his own. For the Dolphins, Rob Greene (Floral Park, NY) recorded 13 kills in 28 attempts while adding ten digs. Phil Gallagher (Pure, ME) downed 17 balls and added seven digs while Brian Cafferty (Neptune, NJ) dished out 34 assists.

In the finals, FRASER killed 19 balls on 34 attempts and BODAJ and rookie KEVIN SUCHOWIECKI (East Brunswick, NJ) recorded eight kills each. BODAJ added two assisted blocks and one solo while FRASER recorded four total blocks. HERNANDEZ and STOKES combined for 38 assists. For the Hawks, Michael McFalls (Woodside, NY) and Daos each recorded 11 kills leading the team. Bello posted 22 assists. Ramapo hit .344 in the match while Hunter hit .138.

Ramapo's FRASER was awarded the ECAC Division III South Tournament Most Valuable Player for his efforts.
