MSU BREAKS RAMAPO’S 17 GAME WIN STREAK FOR NJAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Mahwah, NJ: Junior Jerome Trawick (Newark, NJ) and sophomore Michael Gluck (Union, NJ) recorded 21 points a piece leading Montclair State to a 86-84 double overtime victory over the Roadrunners of Ramapo College. MSU is crowned the 2002-2003 NJAC Champions finishing with a 21-5 overall record while the Roadrunners fall to 24-3 overall.

Montclair snapped Ramapo's 17 game win-streak while shutting down the team from behind the arc. Ramapo shot 3-22 (14%) from three-point range while Montclair hit 10 of 25 (40%). Senior Ben Martinez (Scotch Plains, NJ) hit a shot with 1.9 seconds left to pull Montclair 86-84 ahead of Ramapo. The game was tied 30-30 at the half, 67-67 at the end of regulation, and 78-78 after one overtime. Montclair shot 47% from the floor over Ramapo's 38%.

Martinez netted 11 points while adding seven rebounds while Trawick recorded a double-double with his 21 points and 11 rebounds. Pierre Mitchell (Newark, NJ) added 18 points and five rebounds while Joseph Thomas (Linden, NJ) recorded six rebounds and two points of his own.

For the Roadrunners, senior point guard TENNYSON WHITTED (Jersey City, NJ) led the team with 22 points and eight assists while RASHEEN GADSEN (Jersey City, NJ) added 15 points and pulled down seven boards. CHARLES RANSOM (Jersey City, NJ) netted 14 points and KEVIN STOKES (Wyckoff, NJ) and AMIN WRIGHT (Jersey City, NJ) added 12 and ten points respectively.

Tonight was Montclair's sixth appearance in the NJAC Finals while it is their third time being crowned champions.

While Montclair awaits news on seedings for the NCAA Tournament, Ramapo awaits news for an at-large bid.

At halftime of the game, Ramapo's RANSOM and WHITTED were awarded NJAC Player of the Year and NJAC Defensive Player of the Years awards respectively. RANSOM and WHITTED were named to the NJAC All-Conference First Team while JAY DEGROAT (Middletown, NY) and JARED MILLIGAN (Ringwood, NJ) each received Honarable Mention honors.
