Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team opened the 2003 season with a tri-match against the Fighting Blue Jays of Polytechnic and the Lasers of Lasell at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunner's went 2-0 for the day and now stand 2-0 overall, 1-0 NECVA.
MATCH #1: In the first match of the day Ramapo defeated Polytech, 3-0 (30-12, 30-20, 30-13). Junior KRIS FRASER (Lakewood, NJ) posted a team high 19 kills and six digs, while senior PEDRO HERNANDEZ (West New York, NJ) dished out 25 assists and seven digs. RYAN HOWELL (Bridgewater, NJ) had nine service aces and JERRY ROMAN (West New York, NJ) led the way in blocks with three.
For Polytech, Albert Yuen (Brooklyn Tech) had a team-high ten assists and five digs. Yevgeniy Lange (Sheepshead Bay) also added in five digs.
MATCH #2: Lasell defeated Polytechnic 3-0 (30-19, 30-17, 30-19) in the second match of the day. For the Lasers, Chris Morin (Bellingham, MA) recorded 25 kills and eight digs. Matthew Staley (Marshall, IL) posted a team-high 34 assists. For the Fighting Blue Jays, Michael Kelly (Agawarn) recorded seven kills. Yuen had 17 assists and Lange contributed seven digs.
MATCH #3: The Roadrunners downed Lasell in three dropping the Lasers, 30-23, 30-26, and 30-12. FRASER posted 14 kills and ALEX UNGER (Reading, PA) added 12 with zero errors hitting 55% in the match. JOSH STOKES (San Luis Obispo, CA) dished out 30 assists and HERNANDEZ added 15 in the match.FRASER led the defense with seven digs and rookie KEVIN SUCHOWIECKI (East Brunswick, NJ) added six.
The Roadrunners will travel to Yeshiva on Tuesday, January 28th at 7:30 PM.
