New York, NY: The #25 ranked New York University women's volleyball team defeated visiting Ramapo College, 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17) to open the 2026 season for both teams.
The Violets, who are ranked #25 in the AVCA-Taraflex Top 25 Preseason Poll, held off a Ramapo comeback taking set one, 25-13. The Roadrunners came back in set two jumping out to a 3-0 lead before NYU came back to take a 15-13 lead.
Sydney Tramontana and
Emilia Ristevska recorded back-to-back kills to bring Ramapo within one, 16-15, forcing NYU to take a timeout.
Mia Ligammari put down an ace for the Roadrunners while Ristevska and Tramontana each tallied a kill to push Ramapo in the lead, 18-17. NYU earned two points on two Ramapo errors before a NYU error evened the score to 19.
Jasmine Rolle and NYU's Coco Barton traded kills before a Violet error gave Ramapo a 21-20 lead. Casey Cho tied the set at 21-21 before an attack error from NYU put the Roadrunners up, 21-22, forcing NYU to take another timeout. Tatum Chase gave the Violets a crucial point to tie the set at 22 before Rolle and a NYU error gave Ramapo a 24-22 lead. Rolle then sealed the second set victory with an ace for the Roadrunners. The Roadrunners and Violets played the next two sets very close as NYU was able to pull away late in each for the 3-1 match victory.
The Violets were led by Barton who hit .647 in the match. Barton tallied 12 kills on 17 attempts with just one error while adding seven digs and one ace. Lucianna Welles collected nine kills and hit .400 (9-20 with just one error) while adding two blocks. KylieEmma Obeto led NYU with four blocks while adding eight kills. Lily Leung recorded 12 digs on defense and Aldin Roberts dished out a team high 20 assists. As a team, the Violets recorded a .278 hitting percentage with 61 total kills on 144 attempts with 21 errors.
Asya Akar led the Roadrunners in their season opener with 10 kills while adding two blocks.
Cass Chauhan recorded eight kills, 11 digs and one block while Tramaontana and
Scarlett Melick each collected five kills. Emily Garcia led the team on defense with 14 digs while Rolle posted five total blocks including one solo along with seven digs, two aces and three kills.
Aubrey Agcaoili tallied a team high 20 assists while adding three digs and two kills. The Roadrunners posted 37 kills on 132 attempts with 21 errors in the match.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 5th when they host their first tri-match of the season at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners will take on Penn State University Shenango at 10am and St. Joseph's University Brooklyn at 2pm.
