Reading, PA: The Ramapo College baseball team extended their win streak to four games with a 17-15 nine-inning comeback over Alvernia University this afternoon. The Roadrunners move to 16-8 overall while the Wolves now stand at 12-16 on the year.
Ramapo belted out 14 hits in the game including a grand slam from
Zach Novakowski which propelled the Roadrunners to a 15-13 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
Greg Guzman (1-0) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo in 2.2 innings of relief. Guzman surrendered three hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one.
Cody Quagliato earned his first save of his career shutting down the Wolves offense in the final 1.1 innings of the game. Novakowski and
Julian Schultz finished with three hits each while Novakowski drove in a team high six RBI.
Julian Caruso and
Zach Barbash each posted two RBI in the game.
Alvernia took a 4-0 lead after one inning of play before Ramapo got on the board with three runs in the second. The Wolves posted five in the second before Barbash drove in two RBI with a two-run home run in the third inning. Ramapo tacked on four more runs in the fourth to take a 10-9 lead while Alvernia added one in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 10. The Wolves scored three in the bottom of the sixth as Ramapo scored five in the seventh and two in the eighth for the 17-13 lead. In the seventh, Caruso drove in
Eric Knapp with an RBI sac fly before Novakowski's grand slam. In the eighth,
Brandon Tauber drove in
Braden Schappert with an RBI single before a double steal from the Roadrunners saw Barbash cross home plate safely, 17-13. Jake Chapman gave the Wolves some life in the eighth with a two RBI single before Quagliato closed out the inning with a ground out to second to end the threat.
Ramapo returns to action Thursday, April 9th when they travel to New Jersey City University for a NJAC game at 3:30 PM.
