ROADRUNNERS AND OPSREYS SPLIT FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAMES

RAMAPO EARNS #4 SEED IN UPCOMING NJAC TOURNAMENT

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team split the final regular season NJAC games of the season today against Stockton University. The Ospreys took game one for an 8-5 win before the Roadrunners bounced back and won game two, 6-3. The Roadrunners move to 27-11 overall and 12-6 in the NJAC while the Ospreys wrap up the season with a 12-25 overall record and 7-11 in the league. The Roadrunners earn the #4 seed in the NJAC Baseball Tournament which begins tomorrow afternoon. Ramapo will host #5 Rutgers-Camden University at Jeff Mound Field at 3:00pm. Game #1: Stockton 8, Ramapo 5
Stockton took a quick three run lead in the top of the first inning before Ramapo scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Julian Caruso led off the inning with a double before Zach Novakowski belted his team leading sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the right field wall. In the bottom of the second, Braden Schappert drove in Eric Knapp with an RBI single to tie the game, 3-3. In the top of the fourth, Nick Avagano drove in Jimmy Casey with an RBI double for a 4-3 lead for the Ospreys. Ramapo would come back with one run of their own as Julian Schultz drove in Jack Tallent with an RBI single, 4-4. Dan Maglio then laced a single through the left side of the infield as Novakowski scored for the 5-4 lead. In the seventh, Stockton took the lead for good with a two-RBI single from Casey to take a one run lead, 6-5. In the eighth, they added two insurance runs as Matthew McClosky singled to center field to pick up two RBI, 8-5.

Tim Welsh (2-6) earned the win in relief for the Ospreys as he struck out five, walked one and scattered two hits in five innings of work.

For the Roadrunners, Thomas Schlaline (2-3) suffered the loss on the mound as he struck out four, walked two and surrendered eight hits and six runs (four earned) over 6.1 innings of work. Maglio led the team finishing 2-4 at the plate with one RBI.

Game #2: Ramapo 6, Stockton 3
Michael Antonucci posted an RBI ground out for the Ospreys in the second to take a 1-0 lead before Ramapo tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. Eric Knapp drove in Julian Schultz with an RBI single, 1-1. In the third inning, Schappert drove in Caruso with an RBI single for the 2-1 lead. Stockton tied the game once again in the fourth with one run before Schappert drove in two RBI as Zach Barbash and Brandon Tauber came around to score on his RBI single, 4-2. In the fifth, Knapp plated Schultz with an RBI double before Tauber lifted a sac fly to plate Knapp, 6-2. Stockton added their final run of the game in the eighth inning with a sac fly from Logan Madison. Nick Kowalewski (2-3) struck out one, walked three and let up seven hits and four runs in four innings of work for Stockton in the loss.

Joe Micchio (4-0) earned the win for the Roadrunners on the mound. Micchio struck out one, walked four and scattered five hits over six innings of work while he let up two runs (one earned). The Roadrunners collected 13 hits in the game as Caurso finished 4-5 with one RBI, Schappert finished 2-5 with three RBI and Knapp and Barbash each finished with two hits.
