KAHN, GUZMAN LEAD RAMAPO TO 6-1 WIN OVER WPU

ROADRUNNERS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO 11 GAMES

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team extended their win streak to 11 games as they completed the NJAC home-and-home sweep over visiting William Paterson University, 6-1. The Roadrunners improve to 23-8 overall and 9-3 in the NJAC while the Pioneers drop to 12-18 overall and 5-7 in the league.

The Roadrunners got on the board early with one run in the first and one in the second for a 2-0 lead. Julian Caruso led off the bottom of the first with a walk before a hit by pitch and another walk loaded the bases with no outs. Nick Pellegrino bounced into a fielder's choice as Caruso scored. In the second, Dan Maglio singled with one out, moved to second on a walk to Brandon Tauber before scoring on Caruso's RBI single to center field, 2-0. In the fourth, Eric Knapp led off with a single to left field before moving to third on a throwing error on a failed pick-off attempt. The throw back into the infield by WPU was misplayed which allowed Knapp to race home, 3-0. Back-to-back singles from Braden Schappert and Maglio put runners on for Ramapo before an infield throwing error allowed Schappert to score an unearned run, 4-0. Jack Tallent poked a single to center field which plated Maglio and Tauber to extend the Ramapo lead, 6-0. WPU scored their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Matt Caruso singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch.

The pitching duo of James Kahn (3-3 overall) and reliever Greg Guzman held the Pioneers to six hits in the victory. Kahn earned his 3rd win of the season with five strikeouts, three walks while he let up five hits and one run scored. Guzman earned his first save of his career as he fired three scoreless innings with three strikeouts, two walks while he let up just one hit. Ramapo tallied 10 hits in the game as Tallent, Knapp, Schappert and Maglio each collected two hits.

The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon on the road at Rutgers-Newark University for a pair of NJAC games. First pitch of game one is set for 11:30am at Weequahic Park.
