STRONG PITCHING LEADS BASEBALL IN SWEEP OVER RUTGERS-CAMDEN

Camden, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team extended their win streak to eight in a row with a NJAC sweep over Rutgers-Camden University (14-15, 6-4 NJAC) this afternoon. The Roadrunners (20-8, 7-3 NJAC) won game one, 13-3 and game two, 10-0.

Game #1: Ramapo 13, Rutgers-Camden 3
Ramapo scored two runs in the top of the second inning as Braden Schappert plated Julian Schultz with a sac fly before Eric Knapp scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Julian Caruso, 2-0. The Scarlet Raptors got on the board in the third inning with an RBI double from Jake Slusarski to cut the Ramapo lead in half, 2-1. Ramapo pushed their lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth as Nick Pellegrino came around to score following an RBI double from Knapp while Zach Barbash drew a bases loaded walk to force home Schultz. Rutgers-Camden pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Ramapo lead, 4-3. Ramapo would break the game open in the seventh inning with eight runs to take a 12-3 lead. Schappert drove in two RBI with a single to left field before Brandon Tauber drove in two more with a single to center field, 8-3. Barbash later scored on an infield error before Tauber scored on a wild pitch for a 10-3 lead. Caruso scored on an RBI groundout before Pellegrino belted his second home run of his career, a solo shot over the left field wall, 12-3. In the eighth, Tauber plated Schappert with the team's final run with a fielder's choice, 13-3.

John Hacker (4-1) struck out six, walked one and surrendered just six hits and three runs (two earned) in seven innings of work. Greg Guzman pitched the final two innings for Ramapo with two strikeouts and one walk while he did not give up a hit. Ramapo tallied 19 hits in the game as five Roadrunners posted three each; Pellegrino, Schultz, Knapp, Barbash, Tauber and Schappert. Tauber and Schappert led the way with three RBI each.

Game #2: Ramapo 10, Rutgers-Camden 0
The Roadrunners posted their first shutout of the season as Ramapo starting pitcher Thomas Schlaline (2-1) struck out six in eight scoreless innings while surrendering just four hits. Cody Quagliato pitched the final innings for the Roadrunners and did not give up a hit. Ramapo got on the board in the fourth inning with three runs highlighted with an RBI double from Knapp to plate Pellegrino. In the fifth, Caruso scored an unearned run on a Scarlet Raptor error, 5-0. Schappert and Caruso each tallied RBI singles in the sixth to push the score, 6-0. Schultz put down a bunt and reached on an error as Pellegrino was able to score in the seventh. Tauber laced a single down the left field line to plate Knapp and Schultz, 9-0. Knapp drove in Schultz in the eighth with an RBI double, 10-0. Ramapo collected 13 hits in game two as Caruso finished 3-5 with one RBI. Knapp, Schappert and Tauber each drove in two RBI.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 14th when they host Mount Saint Mary College in non-conference at Jeff Maund Field at 3:30pm.
